Song of Solomon 5

  1. 1<pb/><t>I have come into my garden, my sister, my bride;</t> <t>I have gathered my myrrh with my spice.</t> <t>I have eaten my honeycomb and my honey;</t> <t>I have drunk my wine and my milk.</t> <t>Eat, friends, and drink;</t> <t>drink your fill of love.</t>
  2. 2<t>I slept but my heart was awake.</t> <t>Listen! My beloved is knocking:</t> <t>“Open to me, my sister, my darling,</t> <t>my dove, my flawless one.</t> <t>My head is drenched with dew,</t> <t>my hair with the dampness of the night.”</t>
  3. 3<t>I have taken off my robe—</t> <t>must I put it on again?</t> <t>I have washed my feet—</t> <t>must I soil them again?</t>
  4. 4<t>My beloved thrust his hand through the latch-opening;</t> <t>my heart began to pound for him.</t>
  5. 5<t>I arose to open for my beloved,</t> <t>and my hands dripped with myrrh,</t> <t>my fingers with flowing myrrh,</t> <t>on the handles of the bolt.</t>
  6. 6<t>I opened for my beloved,</t> <t>but my beloved had left; he was gone.</t> <t>My heart sank at his departure.<f>[11]</f></t> <t>I looked for him but did not find him.</t> <t>I called him but he did not answer.</t>
  7. 7<t>The watchmen found me</t> <t>as they made their rounds in the city.</t> <t>They beat me, they bruised me;</t> <t>they took away my cloak,</t> <t>those watchmen of the walls!</t>
  8. 8<t>Daughters of Jerusalem, I charge you—</t> <t>if you find my beloved,</t> <t>what will you tell him?</t> <t>Tell him I am faint with love.</t>
  9. 9<t>How is your beloved better than others,</t> <t>most beautiful of women?</t> <t>How is your beloved better than others,</t> <t>that you so charge us?</t>
  10. 10<t>My beloved is radiant and ruddy,</t> <t>outstanding among ten thousand.</t>
  11. 11<t>His head is purest gold;</t> <t>his hair is wavy</t> <t>and black as a raven.</t>
  12. 12<t>His eyes are like doves</t> <t>by the water streams,</t> <t>washed in milk,</t> <t>mounted like jewels.</t>
  13. 13<t>His cheeks are like beds of spice</t> <t>yielding perfume.</t> <t>His lips are like lilies</t> <t>dripping with myrrh.</t>
  14. 14<t>His arms are rods of gold</t> <t>set with topaz.</t> <t>His body is like polished ivory</t> <t>decorated with lapis lazuli.</t>
  15. 15<t>His legs are pillars of marble</t> <t>set on bases of pure gold.</t> <t>His appearance is like Lebanon,</t> <t>choice as its cedars.</t>
  16. 16<t>His mouth is sweetness itself;</t> <t>he is altogether lovely.</t> <t>This is my beloved, this is my friend,</t> <t>daughters of Jerusalem.</t>
