Psalms 83
- 1<pb/><e>A song. A psalm of Asaph.</e> <pb/><t>O God, do not remain silent;</t> <t>do not turn a deaf ear,</t> <t>do not stand aloof, O God.</t>
- 2<t>See how your enemies growl,</t> <t>how your foes rear their heads.</t>
- 3<t>With cunning they conspire against your people;</t> <t>they plot against those you cherish.</t>
- 4<t>“Come,” they say, “let us destroy them as a nation,</t> <t>so that Israel’s name is remembered no more.” <pb/></t>
- 5<t>With one mind they plot together;</t> <t>they form an alliance against you—</t>
- 6<t>the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites,</t> <t>of Moab and the Hagrites,</t>
- 7<t>Byblos, Ammon and Amalek,</t> <t>Philistia, with the people of Tyre.</t>
- 8<t>Even Assyria has joined them</t> <t>to reinforce Lot’s descendants.<f>[155]</f> <pb/></t>
- 9<t>Do to them as you did to Midian,</t> <t>as you did to Sisera and Jabin at the river Kishon,</t>
- 10<t>who perished at Endor</t> <t>and became like dung on the ground.</t>
- 11<t>Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb,</t> <t>all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna,</t>
- 12<t>who said, “Let us take possession</t> <t>of the pasturelands of God.” <pb/></t>
- 13<t>Make them like tumbleweed, my God,</t> <t>like chaff before the wind.</t>
- 14<t>As fire consumes the forest</t> <t>or a flame sets the mountains ablaze,</t>
- 15<t>so pursue them with your tempest</t> <t>and terrify them with your storm.</t>
- 16<t>Cover their faces with shame, LORD,</t> <t>so that they will seek your name. <pb/></t>
- 17<t>May they ever be ashamed and dismayed;</t> <t>may they perish in disgrace.</t>
- 18<t>Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD—</t> <t>that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.</t>
