Psalms 45

  1. 1<pb/><e>For the director of music. To the tune of “Lilies.” Of the Sons of Korah. A maskil.</e><f>[73]</f> A wedding song. <pb/><t>My heart is stirred by a noble theme</t> <t>as I recite my verses for the king;</t> <t>my tongue is the pen of a skillful writer. <pb/></t>
  2. 2<t>You are the most excellent of men</t> <t>and your lips have been anointed with grace,</t> <t>since God has blessed you forever. <pb/></t>
  3. 3<t>Gird your sword on your side, you mighty one;</t> <t>clothe yourself with splendor and majesty.</t>
  4. 4<t>In your majesty ride forth victoriously</t> <t>in the cause of truth, humility and justice;</t> <t>let your right hand achieve awesome deeds.</t>
  5. 5<t>Let your sharp arrows pierce the hearts of the king’s enemies;</t> <t>let the nations fall beneath your feet.</t>
  6. 6<t>Your throne, O God,<f>[74]</f> will last for ever and ever;</t> <t>a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom.</t>
  7. 7<t>You love righteousness and hate wickedness;</t> <t>therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions</t> <t>by anointing you with the oil of joy.</t>
  8. 8<t>All your robes are fragrant with myrrh and aloes and cassia;</t> <t>from palaces adorned with ivory</t> <t>the music of the strings makes you glad.</t>
  9. 9<t>Daughters of kings are among your honored women;</t> <t>at your right hand is the royal bride in gold of Ophir. <pb/></t>
  10. 10<t>Listen, daughter, and pay careful attention:</t> <t>Forget your people and your father’s house.</t>
  11. 11<t>Let the king be enthralled by your beauty;</t> <t>honor him, for he is your lord.</t>
  12. 12<t>The city of Tyre will come with a gift,<f>[75]</f></t> <t>people of wealth will seek your favor.</t>
  13. 13<t>All glorious is the princess within her chamber;</t> <t>her gown is interwoven with gold.</t>
  14. 14<t>In embroidered garments she is led to the king;</t> <t>her virgin companions follow her—</t> <t>those brought to be with her.</t>
  15. 15<t>Led in with joy and gladness,</t> <t>they enter the palace of the king. <pb/></t>
  16. 16<t>Your sons will take the place of your fathers;</t> <t>you will make them princes throughout the land. <pb/></t>
  17. 17<t>I will perpetuate your memory through all generations;</t> <t>therefore the nations will praise you for ever and ever.</t>
