Psalms 42

  1. 1<pb/><e>For the director of music. A maskil</e><f>[68]</f> of the Sons of Korah. <pb/><t>As the deer pants for streams of water,</t> <t>so my soul pants for you, my God.</t>
  2. 2<t>My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.</t> <t>When can I go and meet with God?</t>
  3. 3<t>My tears have been my food</t> <t>day and night,</t> <t>while people say to me all day long,</t> <t>“Where is your God?”</t>
  4. 4<t>These things I remember</t> <t>as I pour out my soul:</t> <t>how I used to go to the house of God</t> <t>under the protection of the Mighty One<f>[69]</f></t> <t>with shouts of joy and praise</t> <t>among the festive throng. <pb/></t>
  5. 5<t>Why, my soul, are you downcast?</t> <t>Why so disturbed within me?</t> <t>Put your hope in God,</t> <t>for I will yet praise him,</t> <t>my Savior and my God. <pb/></t>
  6. 6<t>My soul is downcast within me;</t> <t>therefore I will remember you</t> <t>from the land of the Jordan,</t> <t>the heights of Hermon—from Mount Mizar.</t>
  7. 7<t>Deep calls to deep</t> <t>in the roar of your waterfalls;</t> <t>all your waves and breakers</t> <t>have swept over me. <pb/></t>
  8. 8<t>By day the LORD directs his love,</t> <t>at night his song is with me—</t> <t>a prayer to the God of my life. <pb/></t>
  9. 9<t>I say to God my Rock,</t> <t>“Why have you forgotten me?</t> <t>Why must I go about mourning,</t> <t>oppressed by the enemy?”</t>
  10. 10<t>My bones suffer mortal agony</t> <t>as my foes taunt me,</t> <t>saying to me all day long,</t> <t>“Where is your God?” <pb/></t>
  11. 11<t>Why, my soul, are you downcast?</t> <t>Why so disturbed within me?</t> <t>Put your hope in God,</t> <t>for I will yet praise him,</t> <t>my Savior and my God.</t>
