Psalms 41

  1. 1<pb/><e>For the director of music. A psalm of David.</e> <pb/><t>Blessed are those who have regard for the weak;</t> <t>the LORD delivers them in times of trouble.</t>
  2. 2<t>The LORD protects and preserves them—</t> <t>they are counted among the blessed in the land—</t> <t>he does not give them over to the desire of their foes.</t>
  3. 3<t>The LORD sustains them on their sickbed</t> <t>and restores them from their bed of illness. <pb/></t>
  4. 4<t>I said, “Have mercy on me, LORD;</t> <t>heal me, for I have sinned against you.”</t>
  5. 5<t>My enemies say of me in malice,</t> <t>“When will he die and his name perish?”</t>
  6. 6<t>When one of them comes to see me,</t> <t>he speaks falsely, while his heart gathers slander;</t> <t>then he goes out and spreads it around. <pb/></t>
  7. 7<t>All my enemies whisper together against me;</t> <t>they imagine the worst for me, saying,</t>
  8. 8<t>“A vile disease has afflicted him;</t> <t>he will never get up from the place where he lies.”</t>
  9. 9<t>Even my close friend,</t> <t>someone I trusted,</t> <t>one who shared my bread,</t> <t>has turned<f>[67]</f> against me. <pb/></t>
  10. 10<t>But may you have mercy on me, LORD;</t> <t>raise me up, that I may repay them.</t>
  11. 11<t>I know that you are pleased with me,</t> <t>for my enemy does not triumph over me.</t>
  12. 12<t>Because of my integrity you uphold me</t> <t>and set me in your presence forever. <pb/></t>
  13. 13<t>Praise be to the LORD, the God of Israel,</t> <t>from everlasting to everlasting. <pb/>Amen and Amen.</t>
