Psalms 37

  1. 1<pb/><e>Of David.</e> <pb/><t>Do not fret because of those who are evil</t> <t>or be envious of those who do wrong;</t>
  2. 2<t>for like the grass they will soon wither,</t> <t>like green plants they will soon die away. <pb/></t>
  3. 3<t>Trust in the LORD and do good;</t> <t>dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.</t>
  4. 4<t>Take delight in the LORD,</t> <t>and he will give you the desires of your heart. <pb/></t>
  5. 5<t>Commit your way to the LORD;</t> <t>trust in him and he will do this:</t>
  6. 6<t>He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn,</t> <t>your vindication like the noonday sun. <pb/></t>
  7. 7<t>Be still before the LORD</t> <t>and wait patiently for him;</t> <t>do not fret when people succeed in their ways,</t> <t>when they carry out their wicked schemes. <pb/></t>
  8. 8<t>Refrain from anger and turn from wrath;</t> <t>do not fret—it leads only to evil.</t>
  9. 9<t>For those who are evil will be destroyed,</t> <t>but those who hope in the LORD will inherit the land. <pb/></t>
  10. 10<t>A little while, and the wicked will be no more;</t> <t>though you look for them, they will not be found.</t>
  11. 11<t>But the meek will inherit the land</t> <t>and enjoy peace and prosperity. <pb/></t>
  12. 12<t>The wicked plot against the righteous</t> <t>and gnash their teeth at them;</t>
  13. 13<t>but the Lord laughs at the wicked,</t> <t>for he knows their day is coming. <pb/></t>
  14. 14<t>The wicked draw the sword</t> <t>and bend the bow</t> <t>to bring down the poor and needy,</t> <t>to slay those whose ways are upright.</t>
  15. 15<t>But their swords will pierce their own hearts,</t> <t>and their bows will be broken. <pb/></t>
  16. 16<t>Better the little that the righteous have</t> <t>than the wealth of many wicked;</t>
  17. 17<t>for the power of the wicked will be broken,</t> <t>but the LORD upholds the righteous. <pb/></t>
  18. 18<t>The blameless spend their days under the LORD’s care,</t> <t>and their inheritance will endure forever.</t>
  19. 19<t>In times of disaster they will not wither;</t> <t>in days of famine they will enjoy plenty. <pb/></t>
  20. 20<t>But the wicked will perish:</t> <t>Though the LORD’s enemies are like the flowers of the field,</t> <t>they will be consumed, they will go up in smoke. <pb/></t>
  21. 21<t>The wicked borrow and do not repay,</t> <t>but the righteous give generously;</t>
  22. 22<t>those the LORD blesses will inherit the land,</t> <t>but those he curses will be destroyed. <pb/></t>
  23. 23<t>The LORD makes firm the steps</t> <t>of the one who delights in him;</t>
  24. 24<t>though he may stumble, he will not fall,</t> <t>for the LORD upholds him with his hand. <pb/></t>
  25. 25<t>I was young and now I am old,</t> <t>yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken</t> <t>or their children begging bread.</t>
  26. 26<t>They are always generous and lend freely;</t> <t>their children will be a blessing.<f>[57]</f> <pb/></t>
  27. 27<t>Turn from evil and do good;</t> <t>then you will dwell in the land forever.</t>
  28. 28<t>For the LORD loves the just</t> <t>and will not forsake his faithful ones. <pb/>Wrongdoers will be completely destroyed<f>[58]</f>;</t> <t>the offspring of the wicked will perish.</t>
  29. 29<t>The righteous will inherit the land</t> <t>and dwell in it forever. <pb/></t>
  30. 30<t>The mouths of the righteous utter wisdom,</t> <t>and their tongues speak what is just.</t>
  31. 31<t>The law of their God is in their hearts;</t> <t>their feet do not slip. <pb/></t>
  32. 32<t>The wicked lie in wait for the righteous,</t> <t>intent on putting them to death;</t>
  33. 33<t>but the LORD will not leave them in the power of the wicked</t> <t>or let them be condemned when brought to trial. <pb/></t>
  34. 34<t>Hope in the LORD</t> <t>and keep his way.</t> <t>He will exalt you to inherit the land;</t> <t>when the wicked are destroyed, you will see it. <pb/></t>
  35. 35<t>I have seen a wicked and ruthless man</t> <t>flourishing like a luxuriant native tree,</t>
  36. 36<t>but he soon passed away and was no more;</t> <t>though I looked for him, he could not be found. <pb/></t>
  37. 37<t>Consider the blameless, observe the upright;</t> <t>a future awaits those who seek peace.<f>[59]</f></t>
  38. 38<t>But all sinners will be destroyed;</t> <t>there will be no future<f>[60]</f> for the wicked. <pb/></t>
  39. 39<t>The salvation of the righteous comes from the LORD;</t> <t>he is their stronghold in time of trouble.</t>
  40. 40<t>The LORD helps them and delivers them;</t> <t>he delivers them from the wicked and saves them,</t> <t>because they take refuge in him.</t>
