Psalms 31
- 1<pb/><e>For the director of music. A psalm of David.</e> <pb/><t>In you, LORD, I have taken refuge;</t> <t>let me never be put to shame;</t> <t>deliver me in your righteousness.</t>
- 2<t>Turn your ear to me,</t> <t>come quickly to my rescue;</t> <t>be my rock of refuge,</t> <t>a strong fortress to save me.</t>
- 3<t>Since you are my rock and my fortress,</t> <t>for the sake of your name lead and guide me.</t>
- 4<t>Keep me free from the trap that is set for me,</t> <t>for you are my refuge.</t>
- 5<t>Into your hands I commit my spirit;</t> <t>deliver me, LORD, my faithful God. <pb/></t>
- 6<t>I hate those who cling to worthless idols;</t> <t>as for me, I trust in the LORD.</t>
- 7<t>I will be glad and rejoice in your love,</t> <t>for you saw my affliction</t> <t>and knew the anguish of my soul.</t>
- 8<t>You have not given me into the hands of the enemy</t> <t>but have set my feet in a spacious place. <pb/></t>
- 9<t>Be merciful to me, LORD, for I am in distress;</t> <t>my eyes grow weak with sorrow,</t> <t>my soul and body with grief.</t>
- 10<t>My life is consumed by anguish</t> <t>and my years by groaning;</t> <t>my strength fails because of my affliction,<f>[50]</f></t> <t>and my bones grow weak.</t>
- 11<t>Because of all my enemies,</t> <t>I am the utter contempt of my neighbors</t> <t>and an object of dread to my closest friends—</t> <t>those who see me on the street flee from me.</t>
- 12<t>I am forgotten as though I were dead;</t> <t>I have become like broken pottery.</t>
- 13<t>For I hear many whispering,</t> <t>“Terror on every side!”</t> <t>They conspire against me</t> <t>and plot to take my life. <pb/></t>
- 14<t>But I trust in you, LORD;</t> <t>I say, “You are my God.”</t>
- 15<t>My times are in your hands;</t> <t>deliver me from the hands of my enemies,</t> <t>from those who pursue me.</t>
- 16<t>Let your face shine on your servant;</t> <t>save me in your unfailing love.</t>
- 17<t>Let me not be put to shame, LORD,</t> <t>for I have cried out to you;</t> <t>but let the wicked be put to shame</t> <t>and be silent in the realm of the dead.</t>
- 18<t>Let their lying lips be silenced,</t> <t>for with pride and contempt</t> <t>they speak arrogantly against the righteous. <pb/></t>
- 19<t>How abundant are the good things</t> <t>that you have stored up for those who fear you,</t> <t>that you bestow in the sight of all,</t> <t>on those who take refuge in you.</t>
- 20<t>In the shelter of your presence you hide them</t> <t>from all human intrigues;</t> <t>you keep them safe in your dwelling</t> <t>from accusing tongues. <pb/></t>
- 21<t>Praise be to the LORD,</t> <t>for he showed me the wonders of his love</t> <t>when I was in a city under siege.</t>
- 22<t>In my alarm I said,</t> <t>“I am cut off from your sight!”</t> <t>Yet you heard my cry for mercy</t> <t>when I called to you for help. <pb/></t>
- 23<t>Love the LORD, all his faithful people!</t> <t>The LORD preserves those who are true to him,</t> <t>but the proud he pays back in full.</t>
- 24<t>Be strong and take heart,</t> <t>all you who hope in the LORD.</t>
