Psalms 144
- 1<pb/><e>Of David.</e> <pb/><t>Praise be to the LORD my Rock,</t> <t>who trains my hands for war,</t> <t>my fingers for battle.</t>
- 2<t>He is my loving God and my fortress,</t> <t>my stronghold and my deliverer,</t> <t>my shield, in whom I take refuge,</t> <t>who subdues peoples<f>[224]</f> under me. <pb/></t>
- 3<t>LORD, what are human beings that you care for them,</t> <t>mere mortals that you think of them?</t>
- 4<t>They are like a breath;</t> <t>their days are like a fleeting shadow. <pb/></t>
- 5<t>Part your heavens, LORD, and come down;</t> <t>touch the mountains, so that they smoke.</t>
- 6<t>Send forth lightning and scatter the enemy;</t> <t>shoot your arrows and rout them.</t>
- 7<t>Reach down your hand from on high;</t> <t>deliver me and rescue me</t> <t>from the mighty waters,</t> <t>from the hands of foreigners</t>
- 8<t>whose mouths are full of lies,</t> <t>whose right hands are deceitful. <pb/></t>
- 9<t>I will sing a new song to you, my God;</t> <t>on the ten-stringed lyre I will make music to you,</t>
- 10<t>to the One who gives victory to kings,</t> <t>who delivers his servant David. <pb/>From the deadly sword</t>
- 11<t>deliver me;</t> <t>rescue me from the hands of foreigners</t> <t>whose mouths are full of lies,</t> <t>whose right hands are deceitful. <pb/></t>
- 12<t>Then our sons in their youth</t> <t>will be like well-nurtured plants,</t> <t>and our daughters will be like pillars</t> <t>carved to adorn a palace.</t>
- 13<t>Our barns will be filled</t> <t>with every kind of provision.</t> <t>Our sheep will increase by thousands,</t> <t>by tens of thousands in our fields;</t>
- 14<t>our oxen will draw heavy loads.<f>[225]</f></t> <t>There will be no breaching of walls,</t> <t>no going into captivity,</t> <t>no cry of distress in our streets.</t>
- 15<t>Blessed is the people of whom this is true;</t> <t>blessed is the people whose God is the LORD.</t>
