Proverbs 28
- 1<pb/><t>The wicked flee though no one pursues,</t> <t>but the righteous are as bold as a lion. <pb/></t>
- 2<t>When a country is rebellious, it has many rulers,</t> <t>but a ruler with discernment and knowledge maintains order. <pb/></t>
- 3<t>A ruler<f>[47]</f> who oppresses the poor</t> <t>is like a driving rain that leaves no crops. <pb/></t>
- 4<t>Those who forsake instruction praise the wicked,</t> <t>but those who heed it resist them. <pb/></t>
- 5<t>Evildoers do not understand what is right,</t> <t>but those who seek the LORD understand it fully. <pb/></t>
- 6<t>Better the poor whose walk is blameless</t> <t>than the rich whose ways are perverse. <pb/></t>
- 7<t>A discerning son heeds instruction,</t> <t>but a companion of gluttons disgraces his father. <pb/></t>
- 8<t>Whoever increases wealth by taking interest or profit from the poor</t> <t>amasses it for another, who will be kind to the poor. <pb/></t>
- 9<t>If anyone turns a deaf ear to my instruction,</t> <t>even their prayers are detestable. <pb/></t>
- 10<t>Whoever leads the upright along an evil path</t> <t>will fall into their own trap,</t> <t>but the blameless will receive a good inheritance. <pb/></t>
- 11<t>The rich are wise in their own eyes;</t> <t>one who is poor and discerning sees how deluded they are. <pb/></t>
- 12<t>When the righteous triumph, there is great elation;</t> <t>but when the wicked rise to power, people go into hiding. <pb/></t>
- 13<t>Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper,</t> <t>but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy. <pb/></t>
- 14<t>Blessed is the one who always trembles before God,</t> <t>but whoever hardens their heart falls into trouble. <pb/></t>
- 15<t>Like a roaring lion or a charging bear</t> <t>is a wicked ruler over a helpless people. <pb/></t>
- 16<t>A tyrannical ruler practices extortion,</t> <t>but one who hates ill-gotten gain will enjoy a long reign. <pb/></t>
- 17<t>Anyone tormented by the guilt of murder</t> <t>will seek refuge in the grave;</t> <t>let no one hold them back. <pb/></t>
- 18<t>The one whose walk is blameless is kept safe,</t> <t>but the one whose ways are perverse will fall into the pit.<f>[48]</f> <pb/></t>
- 19<t>Those who work their land will have abundant food,</t> <t>but those who chase fantasies will have their fill of poverty. <pb/></t>
- 20<t>A faithful person will be richly blessed,</t> <t>but one eager to get rich will not go unpunished. <pb/></t>
- 21<t>To show partiality is not good—</t> <t>yet a person will do wrong for a piece of bread. <pb/></t>
- 22<t>The stingy are eager to get rich</t> <t>and are unaware that poverty awaits them. <pb/></t>
- 23<t>Whoever rebukes a person will in the end gain favor</t> <t>rather than one who has a flattering tongue. <pb/></t>
- 24<t>Whoever robs their father or mother</t> <t>and says, “It’s not wrong,”</t> <t>is partner to one who destroys. <pb/></t>
- 25<t>The greedy stir up conflict,</t> <t>but those who trust in the LORD will prosper. <pb/></t>
- 26<t>Those who trust in themselves are fools,</t> <t>but those who walk in wisdom are kept safe. <pb/></t>
- 27<t>Those who give to the poor will lack nothing,</t> <t>but those who close their eyes to them receive many curses. <pb/></t>
- 28<t>When the wicked rise to power, people go into hiding;</t> <t>but when the wicked perish, the righteous thrive.</t>
