Proverbs 29
- 1<pb/><t>Whoever remains stiff-necked after many rebukes</t> <t>will suddenly be destroyed—without remedy. <pb/></t>
- 2<t>When the righteous thrive, the people rejoice;</t> <t>when the wicked rule, the people groan. <pb/></t>
- 3<t>A man who loves wisdom brings joy to his father,</t> <t>but a companion of prostitutes squanders his wealth. <pb/></t>
- 4<t>By justice a king gives a country stability,</t> <t>but those who are greedy for<f>[49]</f> bribes tear it down. <pb/></t>
- 5<t>Those who flatter their neighbors</t> <t>are spreading nets for their feet. <pb/></t>
- 6<t>Evildoers are snared by their own sin,</t> <t>but the righteous shout for joy and are glad. <pb/></t>
- 7<t>The righteous care about justice for the poor,</t> <t>but the wicked have no such concern. <pb/></t>
- 8<t>Mockers stir up a city,</t> <t>but the wise turn away anger. <pb/></t>
- 9<t>If a wise person goes to court with a fool,</t> <t>the fool rages and scoffs, and there is no peace. <pb/></t>
- 10<t>The bloodthirsty hate a person of integrity</t> <t>and seek to kill the upright. <pb/></t>
- 11<t>Fools give full vent to their rage,</t> <t>but the wise bring calm in the end. <pb/></t>
- 12<t>If a ruler listens to lies,</t> <t>all his officials become wicked. <pb/></t>
- 13<t>The poor and the oppressor have this in common:</t> <t>The LORD gives sight to the eyes of both. <pb/></t>
- 14<t>If a king judges the poor with fairness,</t> <t>his throne will be established forever. <pb/></t>
- 15<t>A rod and a reprimand impart wisdom,</t> <t>but a child left undisciplined disgraces its mother. <pb/></t>
- 16<t>When the wicked thrive, so does sin,</t> <t>but the righteous will see their downfall. <pb/></t>
- 17<t>Discipline your children, and they will give you peace;</t> <t>they will bring you the delights you desire. <pb/></t>
- 18<t>Where there is no revelation, people cast off restraint;</t> <t>but blessed is the one who heeds wisdom’s instruction. <pb/></t>
- 19<t>Servants cannot be corrected by mere words;</t> <t>though they understand, they will not respond. <pb/></t>
- 20<t>Do you see someone who speaks in haste?</t> <t>There is more hope for a fool than for them. <pb/></t>
- 21<t>A servant pampered from youth</t> <t>will turn out to be insolent. <pb/></t>
- 22<t>An angry person stirs up conflict,</t> <t>and a hot-tempered person commits many sins. <pb/></t>
- 23<t>Pride brings a person low,</t> <t>but the lowly in spirit gain honor. <pb/></t>
- 24<t>The accomplices of thieves are their own enemies;</t> <t>they are put under oath and dare not testify. <pb/></t>
- 25<t>Fear of man will prove to be a snare,</t> <t>but whoever trusts in the LORD is kept safe. <pb/></t>
- 26<t>Many seek an audience with a ruler,</t> <t>but it is from the LORD that one gets justice. <pb/></t>
- 27<t>The righteous detest the dishonest;</t> <t>the wicked detest the upright.</t>
