Proverbs 14

  1. 1<pb/><t>The wise woman builds her house,</t> <t>but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down. <pb/></t>
  2. 2<t>Whoever fears the LORD walks uprightly,</t> <t>but those who despise him are devious in their ways. <pb/></t>
  3. 3<t>A fool’s mouth lashes out with pride,</t> <t>but the lips of the wise protect them. <pb/></t>
  4. 4<t>Where there are no oxen, the manger is empty,</t> <t>but from the strength of an ox come abundant harvests. <pb/></t>
  5. 5<t>An honest witness does not deceive,</t> <t>but a false witness pours out lies. <pb/></t>
  6. 6<t>The mocker seeks wisdom and finds none,</t> <t>but knowledge comes easily to the discerning. <pb/></t>
  7. 7<t>Stay away from a fool,</t> <t>for you will not find knowledge on their lips. <pb/></t>
  8. 8<t>The wisdom of the prudent is to give thought to their ways,</t> <t>but the folly of fools is deception. <pb/></t>
  9. 9<t>Fools mock at making amends for sin,</t> <t>but goodwill is found among the upright. <pb/></t>
  10. 10<t>Each heart knows its own bitterness,</t> <t>and no one else can share its joy. <pb/></t>
  11. 11<t>The house of the wicked will be destroyed,</t> <t>but the tent of the upright will flourish. <pb/></t>
  12. 12<t>There is a way that appears to be right,</t> <t>but in the end it leads to death. <pb/></t>
  13. 13<t>Even in laughter the heart may ache,</t> <t>and rejoicing may end in grief. <pb/></t>
  14. 14<t>The faithless will be fully repaid for their ways,</t> <t>and the good rewarded for theirs. <pb/></t>
  15. 15<t>The simple believe anything,</t> <t>but the prudent give thought to their steps. <pb/></t>
  16. 16<t>The wise fear the LORD and shun evil,</t> <t>but a fool is hotheaded and yet feels secure. <pb/></t>
  17. 17<t>A quick-tempered person does foolish things,</t> <t>and the one who devises evil schemes is hated. <pb/></t>
  18. 18<t>The simple inherit folly,</t> <t>but the prudent are crowned with knowledge. <pb/></t>
  19. 19<t>Evildoers will bow down in the presence of the good,</t> <t>and the wicked at the gates of the righteous. <pb/></t>
  20. 20<t>The poor are shunned even by their neighbors,</t> <t>but the rich have many friends. <pb/></t>
  21. 21<t>It is a sin to despise one’s neighbor,</t> <t>but blessed is the one who is kind to the needy. <pb/></t>
  22. 22<t>Do not those who plot evil go astray?</t> <t>But those who plan what is good find<f>[28]</f> love and faithfulness. <pb/></t>
  23. 23<t>All hard work brings a profit,</t> <t>but mere talk leads only to poverty. <pb/></t>
  24. 24<t>The wealth of the wise is their crown,</t> <t>but the folly of fools yields folly. <pb/></t>
  25. 25<t>A truthful witness saves lives,</t> <t>but a false witness is deceitful. <pb/></t>
  26. 26<t>Whoever fears the LORD has a secure fortress,</t> <t>and for their children it will be a refuge. <pb/></t>
  27. 27<t>The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life,</t> <t>turning a person from the snares of death. <pb/></t>
  28. 28<t>A large population is a king’s glory,</t> <t>but without subjects a prince is ruined. <pb/></t>
  29. 29<t>Whoever is patient has great understanding,</t> <t>but one who is quick-tempered displays folly. <pb/></t>
  30. 30<t>A heart at peace gives life to the body,</t> <t>but envy rots the bones. <pb/></t>
  31. 31<t>Whoever oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker,</t> <t>but whoever is kind to the needy honors God. <pb/></t>
  32. 32<t>When calamity comes, the wicked are brought down,</t> <t>but even in death the righteous seek refuge in God. <pb/></t>
  33. 33<t>Wisdom reposes in the heart of the discerning</t> <t>and even among fools she lets herself be known.<f>[29]</f> <pb/></t>
  34. 34<t>Righteousness exalts a nation,</t> <t>but sin condemns any people. <pb/></t>
  35. 35<t>A king delights in a wise servant,</t> <t>but a shameful servant arouses his fury.</t>
