Proverbs 13
- 1<pb/><t>A wise son heeds his father’s instruction,</t> <t>but a mocker does not respond to rebukes. <pb/></t>
- 2<t>From the fruit of their lips people enjoy good things,</t> <t>but the unfaithful have an appetite for violence. <pb/></t>
- 3<t>Those who guard their lips preserve their lives,</t> <t>but those who speak rashly will come to ruin. <pb/></t>
- 4<t>A sluggard’s appetite is never filled,</t> <t>but the desires of the diligent are fully satisfied. <pb/></t>
- 5<t>The righteous hate what is false,</t> <t>but the wicked make themselves a stench</t> <t>and bring shame on themselves. <pb/></t>
- 6<t>Righteousness guards the person of integrity,</t> <t>but wickedness overthrows the sinner. <pb/></t>
- 7<t>One person pretends to be rich, yet has nothing;</t> <t>another pretends to be poor, yet has great wealth. <pb/></t>
- 8<t>A person’s riches may ransom their life,</t> <t>but the poor cannot respond to threatening rebukes. <pb/></t>
- 9<t>The light of the righteous shines brightly,</t> <t>but the lamp of the wicked is snuffed out. <pb/></t>
- 10<t>Where there is strife, there is pride,</t> <t>but wisdom is found in those who take advice. <pb/></t>
- 11<t>Dishonest money dwindles away,</t> <t>but whoever gathers money little by little makes it grow. <pb/></t>
- 12<t>Hope deferred makes the heart sick,</t> <t>but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life. <pb/></t>
- 13<t>Whoever scorns instruction will pay for it,</t> <t>but whoever respects a command is rewarded. <pb/></t>
- 14<t>The teaching of the wise is a fountain of life,</t> <t>turning a person from the snares of death. <pb/></t>
- 15<t>Good judgment wins favor,</t> <t>but the way of the unfaithful leads to their destruction.<f>[26]</f> <pb/></t>
- 16<t>All who are prudent act with<f>[27]</f> knowledge,</t> <t>but fools expose their folly. <pb/></t>
- 17<t>A wicked messenger falls into trouble,</t> <t>but a trustworthy envoy brings healing. <pb/></t>
- 18<t>Whoever disregards discipline comes to poverty and shame,</t> <t>but whoever heeds correction is honored. <pb/></t>
- 19<t>A longing fulfilled is sweet to the soul,</t> <t>but fools detest turning from evil. <pb/></t>
- 20<t>Walk with the wise and become wise,</t> <t>for a companion of fools suffers harm. <pb/></t>
- 21<t>Trouble pursues the sinner,</t> <t>but the righteous are rewarded with good things. <pb/></t>
- 22<t>A good person leaves an inheritance for their children’s children,</t> <t>but a sinner’s wealth is stored up for the righteous. <pb/></t>
- 23<t>An unplowed field produces food for the poor,</t> <t>but injustice sweeps it away. <pb/></t>
- 24<t>Whoever spares the rod hates their children,</t> <t>but the one who loves their children is careful to discipline them. <pb/></t>
- 25<t>The righteous eat to their hearts’ content,</t> <t>but the stomach of the wicked goes hungry.</t>
