Proverbs 11
- 1<pb/><t>The LORD detests dishonest scales,</t> <t>but accurate weights find favor with him. <pb/></t>
- 2<t>When pride comes, then comes disgrace,</t> <t>but with humility comes wisdom. <pb/></t>
- 3<t>The integrity of the upright guides them,</t> <t>but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity. <pb/></t>
- 4<t>Wealth is worthless in the day of wrath,</t> <t>but righteousness delivers from death. <pb/></t>
- 5<t>The righteousness of the blameless makes their paths straight,</t> <t>but the wicked are brought down by their own wickedness. <pb/></t>
- 6<t>The righteousness of the upright delivers them,</t> <t>but the unfaithful are trapped by evil desires. <pb/></t>
- 7<t>Hopes placed in mortals die with them;</t> <t>all the promise of<f>[24]</f> their power comes to nothing. <pb/></t>
- 8<t>The righteous person is rescued from trouble,</t> <t>and it falls on the wicked instead. <pb/></t>
- 9<t>With their mouths the godless destroy their neighbors,</t> <t>but through knowledge the righteous escape. <pb/></t>
- 10<t>When the righteous prosper, the city rejoices;</t> <t>when the wicked perish, there are shouts of joy. <pb/></t>
- 11<t>Through the blessing of the upright a city is exalted,</t> <t>but by the mouth of the wicked it is destroyed. <pb/></t>
- 12<t>Whoever derides their neighbor has no sense,</t> <t>but the one who has understanding holds their tongue. <pb/></t>
- 13<t>A gossip betrays a confidence,</t> <t>but a trustworthy person keeps a secret. <pb/></t>
- 14<t>For lack of guidance a nation falls,</t> <t>but victory is won through many advisers. <pb/></t>
- 15<t>Whoever puts up security for a stranger will surely suffer,</t> <t>but whoever refuses to shake hands in pledge is safe. <pb/></t>
- 16<t>A kindhearted woman gains honor,</t> <t>but ruthless men gain only wealth. <pb/></t>
- 17<t>Those who are kind benefit themselves,</t> <t>but the cruel bring ruin on themselves. <pb/></t>
- 18<t>A wicked person earns deceptive wages,</t> <t>but the one who sows righteousness reaps a sure reward. <pb/></t>
- 19<t>Truly the righteous attain life,</t> <t>but whoever pursues evil finds death. <pb/></t>
- 20<t>The LORD detests those whose hearts are perverse,</t> <t>but he delights in those whose ways are blameless. <pb/></t>
- 21<t>Be sure of this: The wicked will not go unpunished,</t> <t>but those who are righteous will go free. <pb/></t>
- 22<t>Like a gold ring in a pig’s snout</t> <t>is a beautiful woman who shows no discretion. <pb/></t>
- 23<t>The desire of the righteous ends only in good,</t> <t>but the hope of the wicked only in wrath. <pb/></t>
- 24<t>One person gives freely, yet gains even more;</t> <t>another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty. <pb/></t>
- 25<t>A generous person will prosper;</t> <t>whoever refreshes others will be refreshed. <pb/></t>
- 26<t>People curse the one who hoards grain,</t> <t>but they pray God’s blessing on the one who is willing to sell. <pb/></t>
- 27<t>Whoever seeks good finds favor,</t> <t>but evil comes to one who searches for it. <pb/></t>
- 28<t>Those who trust in their riches will fall,</t> <t>but the righteous will thrive like a green leaf. <pb/></t>
- 29<t>Whoever brings ruin on their family will inherit only wind,</t> <t>and the fool will be servant to the wise. <pb/></t>
- 30<t>The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life,</t> <t>and the one who is wise saves lives. <pb/></t>
- 31<t>If the righteous receive their due on earth,</t> <t>how much more the ungodly and the sinner!</t>
