Micah 5

  1. 1<pb/><t><f>[12]</f>Marshal your troops now, city of troops,</t> <t>for a siege is laid against us.</t> <t>They will strike Israel’s ruler</t> <t>on the cheek with a rod. <pb/></t>
  2. 2<t>“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah,</t> <t>though you are small among the clans<f>[13]</f> of Judah,</t> <t>out of you will come for me</t> <t>one who will be ruler over Israel,</t> <t>whose origins are from of old,</t> <t>from ancient times.” <pb/></t>
  3. 3<t>Therefore Israel will be abandoned</t> <t>until the time when she who is in labor bears a son,</t> <t>and the rest of his brothers return</t> <t>to join the Israelites. <pb/></t>
  4. 4<t>He will stand and shepherd his flock</t> <t>in the strength of the LORD,</t> <t>in the majesty of the name of the LORD his God.</t> <t>And they will live securely, for then his greatness</t> <t>will reach to the ends of the earth. <pb/></t>
  5. 5<t>And he will be our peace</t> <t>when the Assyrians invade our land</t> <t>and march through our fortresses.</t> <t>We will raise against them seven shepherds,</t> <t>even eight commanders,</t>
  6. 6<t>who will rule<f>[14]</f> the land of Assyria with the sword,</t> <t>the land of Nimrod with drawn sword.<f>[15]</f></t> <t>He will deliver us from the Assyrians</t> <t>when they invade our land</t> <t>and march across our borders. <pb/></t>
  7. 7<t>The remnant of Jacob will be</t> <t>in the midst of many peoples</t> <t>like dew from the LORD,</t> <t>like showers on the grass,</t> <t>which do not wait for anyone</t> <t>or depend on man.</t>
  8. 8<t>The remnant of Jacob will be among the nations,</t> <t>in the midst of many peoples,</t> <t>like a lion among the beasts of the forest,</t> <t>like a young lion among flocks of sheep,</t> <t>which mauls and mangles as it goes,</t> <t>and no one can rescue.</t>
  9. 9<t>Your hand will be lifted up in triumph over your enemies,</t> <t>and all your foes will be destroyed.</t>
  10. 10<pb/>“In that day,” declares the LORD, <pb/><t>“I will destroy your horses from among you</t> <t>and demolish your chariots.</t>
  11. 11<t>I will destroy the cities of your land</t> <t>and tear down all your strongholds.</t>
  12. 12<t>I will destroy your witchcraft</t> <t>and you will no longer cast spells.</t>
  13. 13<t>I will destroy your idols</t> <t>and your sacred stones from among you;</t> <t>you will no longer bow down</t> <t>to the work of your hands.</t>
  14. 14<t>I will uproot from among you your Asherah poles<f>[16]</f></t> <t>when I demolish your cities.</t>
  15. 15<t>I will take vengeance in anger and wrath</t> <t>on the nations that have not obeyed me.”</t>
