Micah 6
- 1<pb/>Listen to what the LORD says: <pb/><t>“Stand up, plead my case before the mountains;</t> <t>let the hills hear what you have to say. <pb/></t>
- 2<t>“Hear, you mountains, the LORD’s accusation;</t> <t>listen, you everlasting foundations of the earth.</t> <t>For the LORD has a case against his people;</t> <t>he is lodging a charge against Israel. <pb/></t>
- 3<t>“My people, what have I done to you?</t> <t>How have I burdened you? Answer me.</t>
- 4<t>I brought you up out of Egypt</t> <t>and redeemed you from the land of slavery.</t> <t>I sent Moses to lead you,</t> <t>also Aaron and Miriam.</t>
- 5<t>My people, remember</t> <t>what Balak king of Moab plotted</t> <t>and what Balaam son of Beor answered.</t> <t>Remember your journey from Shittim to Gilgal,</t> <t>that you may know the righteous acts of the LORD.” <pb/></t>
- 6<t>With what shall I come before the LORD</t> <t>and bow down before the exalted God?</t> <t>Shall I come before him with burnt offerings,</t> <t>with calves a year old?</t>
- 7<t>Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams,</t> <t>with ten thousand rivers of olive oil?</t> <t>Shall I offer my firstborn for my transgression,</t> <t>the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?</t>
- 8<t>He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.</t> <t>And what does the LORD require of you?</t> <t>To act justly and to love mercy</t> <t>and to walk humbly<f>[17]</f> with your God.</t>
- 9<t>Listen! The LORD is calling to the city—</t> <t>and to fear your name is wisdom—</t> <t>“Heed the rod and the One who appointed it.<f>[18]</f></t>
- 10<t>Am I still to forget your ill-gotten treasures, you wicked house,</t> <t>and the short ephah,<f>[19]</f> which is accursed?</t>
- 11<t>Shall I acquit someone with dishonest scales,</t> <t>with a bag of false weights?</t>
- 12<t>Your rich people are violent;</t> <t>your inhabitants are liars</t> <t>and their tongues speak deceitfully.</t>
- 13<t>Therefore, I have begun to destroy you,</t> <t>to ruin<f>[20]</f> you because of your sins.</t>
- 14<t>You will eat but not be satisfied;</t> <t>your stomach will still be empty.<f>[21]</f></t> <t>You will store up but save nothing,</t> <t>because what you save<f>[22]</f> I will give to the sword.</t>
- 15<t>You will plant but not harvest;</t> <t>you will press olives but not use the oil,</t> <t>you will crush grapes but not drink the wine.</t>
- 16<t>You have observed the statutes of Omri</t> <t>and all the practices of Ahab’s house;</t> <t>you have followed their traditions.</t> <t>Therefore I will give you over to ruin</t> <t>and your people to derision;</t> <t>you will bear the scorn of the nations.<f>[23]</f>”</t>
