Isaiah 61
- 1<pb/><t>The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me,</t> <t>because the LORD has anointed me</t> <t>to proclaim good news to the poor.</t> <t>He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,</t> <t>to proclaim freedom for the captives</t> <t>and release from darkness for the prisoners,<f>[115]</f></t>
- 2<t>to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor</t> <t>and the day of vengeance of our God,</t> <t>to comfort all who mourn,</t>
- 3<t>and provide for those who grieve in Zion—</t> <t>to bestow on them a crown of beauty</t> <t>instead of ashes,</t> <t>the oil of joy</t> <t>instead of mourning,</t> <t>and a garment of praise</t> <t>instead of a spirit of despair.</t> <t>They will be called oaks of righteousness,</t> <t>a planting of the LORD</t> <t>for the display of his splendor. <pb/></t>
- 4<t>They will rebuild the ancient ruins</t> <t>and restore the places long devastated;</t> <t>they will renew the ruined cities</t> <t>that have been devastated for generations.</t>
- 5<t>Strangers will shepherd your flocks;</t> <t>foreigners will work your fields and vineyards.</t>
- 6<t>And you will be called priests of the LORD,</t> <t>you will be named ministers of our God.</t> <t>You will feed on the wealth of nations,</t> <t>and in their riches you will boast. <pb/></t>
- 7<t>Instead of your shame</t> <t>you will receive a double portion,</t> <t>and instead of disgrace</t> <t>you will rejoice in your inheritance.</t> <t>And so you will inherit a double portion in your land,</t> <t>and everlasting joy will be yours. <pb/></t>
- 8<t>“For I, the LORD, love justice;</t> <t>I hate robbery and wrongdoing.</t> <t>In my faithfulness I will reward my people</t> <t>and make an everlasting covenant with them.</t>
- 9<t>Their descendants will be known among the nations</t> <t>and their offspring among the peoples.</t> <t>All who see them will acknowledge</t> <t>that they are a people the LORD has blessed.” <pb/></t>
- 10<t>I delight greatly in the LORD;</t> <t>my soul rejoices in my God.</t> <t>For he has clothed me with garments of salvation</t> <t>and arrayed me in a robe of his righteousness,</t> <t>as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest,</t> <t>and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.</t>
- 11<t>For as the soil makes the sprout come up</t> <t>and a garden causes seeds to grow,</t> <t>so the Sovereign LORD will make righteousness</t> <t>and praise spring up before all nations.</t>
