Isaiah 55

  1. 1<pb/><t>“Come, all you who are thirsty,</t> <t>come to the waters;</t> <t>and you who have no money,</t> <t>come, buy and eat!</t> <t>Come, buy wine and milk</t> <t>without money and without cost.</t>
  2. 2<t>Why spend money on what is not bread,</t> <t>and your labor on what does not satisfy?</t> <t>Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good,</t> <t>and you will delight in the richest of fare.</t>
  3. 3<t>Give ear and come to me;</t> <t>listen, that you may live.</t> <t>I will make an everlasting covenant with you,</t> <t>my faithful love promised to David.</t>
  4. 4<t>See, I have made him a witness to the peoples,</t> <t>a ruler and commander of the peoples.</t>
  5. 5<t>Surely you will summon nations you know not,</t> <t>and nations you do not know will come running to you,</t> <t>because of the LORD your God,</t> <t>the Holy One of Israel,</t> <t>for he has endowed you with splendor.” <pb/></t>
  6. 6<t>Seek the LORD while he may be found;</t> <t>call on him while he is near.</t>
  7. 7<t>Let the wicked forsake their ways</t> <t>and the unrighteous their thoughts.</t> <t>Let them turn to the LORD, and he will have mercy on them,</t> <t>and to our God, for he will freely pardon. <pb/></t>
  8. 8<t>“For my thoughts are not your thoughts,</t> <t>neither are your ways my ways,”</t> <t>declares the LORD.</t>
  9. 9<t>“As the heavens are higher than the earth,</t> <t>so are my ways higher than your ways</t> <t>and my thoughts than your thoughts.</t>
  10. 10<t>As the rain and the snow</t> <t>come down from heaven,</t> <t>and do not return to it</t> <t>without watering the earth</t> <t>and making it bud and flourish,</t> <t>so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater,</t>
  11. 11<t>so is my word that goes out from my mouth:</t> <t>It will not return to me empty,</t> <t>but will accomplish what I desire</t> <t>and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.</t>
  12. 12<t>You will go out in joy</t> <t>and be led forth in peace;</t> <t>the mountains and hills</t> <t>will burst into song before you,</t> <t>and all the trees of the field</t> <t>will clap their hands.</t>
  13. 13<t>Instead of the thornbush will grow the juniper,</t> <t>and instead of briers the myrtle will grow.</t> <t>This will be for the LORD’s renown,</t> <t>for an everlasting sign,</t> <t>that will endure forever.”</t>
