Isaiah 56

  1. 1<pb/>This is what the LORD says: <pb/><t>“Maintain justice</t> <t>and do what is right,</t> <t>for my salvation is close at hand</t> <t>and my righteousness will soon be revealed.</t>
  2. 2<t>Blessed is the one who does this—</t> <t>the person who holds it fast,</t> <t>who keeps the Sabbath without desecrating it,</t> <t>and keeps their hands from doing any evil.” <pb/></t>
  3. 3<t>Let no foreigner who is bound to the LORD say,</t> <t>“The LORD will surely exclude me from his people.”</t> <t>And let no eunuch complain,</t> <t>“I am only a dry tree.”</t>
  4. 4<pb/>For this is what the LORD says: <pb/><t>“To the eunuchs who keep my Sabbaths,</t> <t>who choose what pleases me</t> <t>and hold fast to my covenant—</t>
  5. 5<t>to them I will give within my temple and its walls</t> <t>a memorial and a name</t> <t>better than sons and daughters;</t> <t>I will give them an everlasting name</t> <t>that will endure forever.</t>
  6. 6<t>And foreigners who bind themselves to the LORD</t> <t>to minister to him,</t> <t>to love the name of the LORD,</t> <t>and to be his servants,</t> <t>all who keep the Sabbath without desecrating it</t> <t>and who hold fast to my covenant—</t>
  7. 7<t>these I will bring to my holy mountain</t> <t>and give them joy in my house of prayer.</t> <t>Their burnt offerings and sacrifices</t> <t>will be accepted on my altar;</t> <t>for my house will be called</t> <t>a house of prayer for all nations.”</t>
  8. 8<t>The Sovereign LORD declares—</t> <t>he who gathers the exiles of Israel:</t> <t>“I will gather still others to them</t> <t>besides those already gathered.”</t>
  9. 9<t>Come, all you beasts of the field,</t> <t>come and devour, all you beasts of the forest!</t>
  10. 10<t>Israel’s watchmen are blind,</t> <t>they all lack knowledge;</t> <t>they are all mute dogs,</t> <t>they cannot bark;</t> <t>they lie around and dream,</t> <t>they love to sleep.</t>
  11. 11<t>They are dogs with mighty appetites;</t> <t>they never have enough.</t> <t>They are shepherds who lack understanding;</t> <t>they all turn to their own way,</t> <t>they seek their own gain.</t>
  12. 12<t>“Come,” each one cries, “let me get wine!</t> <t>Let us drink our fill of beer!</t> <t>And tomorrow will be like today,</t> <t>or even far better.”</t>
