Isaiah 54
- 1<pb/><t>“Sing, barren woman,</t> <t>you who never bore a child;</t> <t>burst into song, shout for joy,</t> <t>you who were never in labor;</t> <t>because more are the children of the desolate woman</t> <t>than of her who has a husband,”</t> <t>says the LORD.</t>
- 2<t>“Enlarge the place of your tent,</t> <t>stretch your tent curtains wide,</t> <t>do not hold back;</t> <t>lengthen your cords,</t> <t>strengthen your stakes.</t>
- 3<t>For you will spread out to the right and to the left;</t> <t>your descendants will dispossess nations</t> <t>and settle in their desolate cities. <pb/></t>
- 4<t>“Do not be afraid; you will not be put to shame.</t> <t>Do not fear disgrace; you will not be humiliated.</t> <t>You will forget the shame of your youth</t> <t>and remember no more the reproach of your widowhood.</t>
- 5<t>For your Maker is your husband—</t> <t>the LORD Almighty is his name—</t> <t>the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer;</t> <t>he is called the God of all the earth.</t>
- 6<t>The LORD will call you back</t> <t>as if you were a wife deserted and distressed in spirit—</t> <t>a wife who married young,</t> <t>only to be rejected,” says your God.</t>
- 7<t>“For a brief moment I abandoned you,</t> <t>but with deep compassion I will bring you back.</t>
- 8<t>In a surge of anger</t> <t>I hid my face from you for a moment,</t> <t>but with everlasting kindness</t> <t>I will have compassion on you,”</t> <t>says the LORD your Redeemer. <pb/></t>
- 9<t>“To me this is like the days of Noah,</t> <t>when I swore that the waters of Noah would never again cover the earth.</t> <t>So now I have sworn not to be angry with you,</t> <t>never to rebuke you again.</t>
- 10<t>Though the mountains be shaken</t> <t>and the hills be removed,</t> <t>yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken</t> <t>nor my covenant of peace be removed,”</t> <t>says the LORD, who has compassion on you. <pb/></t>
- 11<t>“Afflicted city, lashed by storms and not comforted,</t> <t>I will rebuild you with stones of turquoise,<f>[109]</f></t> <t>your foundations with lapis lazuli.</t>
- 12<t>I will make your battlements of rubies,</t> <t>your gates of sparkling jewels,</t> <t>and all your walls of precious stones.</t>
- 13<t>All your children will be taught by the LORD,</t> <t>and great will be their peace.</t>
- 14<t>In righteousness you will be established:</t> <t>Tyranny will be far from you;</t> <t>you will have nothing to fear.</t> <t>Terror will be far removed;</t> <t>it will not come near you.</t>
- 15<t>If anyone does attack you, it will not be my doing;</t> <t>whoever attacks you will surrender to you. <pb/></t>
- 16<t>“See, it is I who created the blacksmith</t> <t>who fans the coals into flame</t> <t>and forges a weapon fit for its work.</t> <t>And it is I who have created the destroyer to wreak havoc;</t>
- 17<t>no weapon forged against you will prevail,</t> <t>and you will refute every tongue that accuses you.</t> <t>This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD,</t> <t>and this is their vindication from me,”</t> <t>declares the LORD.</t>
