Isaiah 53

  1. 1<pb/><t>Who has believed our message</t> <t>and to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed?</t>
  2. 2<t>He grew up before him like a tender shoot,</t> <t>and like a root out of dry ground.</t> <t>He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him,</t> <t>nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.</t>
  3. 3<t>He was despised and rejected by mankind,</t> <t>a man of suffering, and familiar with pain.</t> <t>Like one from whom people hide their faces</t> <t>he was despised, and we held him in low esteem. <pb/></t>
  4. 4<t>Surely he took up our pain</t> <t>and bore our suffering,</t> <t>yet we considered him punished by God,</t> <t>stricken by him, and afflicted.</t>
  5. 5<t>But he was pierced for our transgressions,</t> <t>he was crushed for our iniquities;</t> <t>the punishment that brought us peace was on him,</t> <t>and by his wounds we are healed.</t>
  6. 6<t>We all, like sheep, have gone astray,</t> <t>each of us has turned to our own way;</t> <t>and the LORD has laid on him</t> <t>the iniquity of us all. <pb/></t>
  7. 7<t>He was oppressed and afflicted,</t> <t>yet he did not open his mouth;</t> <t>he was led like a lamb to the slaughter,</t> <t>and as a sheep before its shearers is silent,</t> <t>so he did not open his mouth.</t>
  8. 8<t>By oppression<f>[101]</f> and judgment he was taken away.</t> <t>Yet who of his generation protested?</t> <t>For he was cut off from the land of the living;</t> <t>for the transgression of my people he was punished.<f>[102]</f></t>
  9. 9<t>He was assigned a grave with the wicked,</t> <t>and with the rich in his death,</t> <t>though he had done no violence,</t> <t>nor was any deceit in his mouth. <pb/></t>
  10. 10<t>Yet it was the LORD’s will to crush him and cause him to suffer,</t> <t>and though the LORD makes<f>[103]</f> his life an offering for sin,</t> <t>he will see his offspring and prolong his days,</t> <t>and the will of the LORD will prosper in his hand.</t>
  11. 11<t>After he has suffered,</t> <t>he will see the light of life<f>[104]</f> and be satisfied<f>[105]</f>;</t> <t>by his knowledge<f>[106]</f> my righteous servant will justify many,</t> <t>and he will bear their iniquities.</t>
  12. 12<t>Therefore I will give him a portion among the great,<f>[107]</f></t> <t>and he will divide the spoils with the strong,<f>[108]</f></t> <t>because he poured out his life unto death,</t> <t>and was numbered with the transgressors.</t> <t>For he bore the sin of many,</t> <t>and made intercession for the transgressors.</t>
