Isaiah 25

  1. 1<pb/><t>LORD, you are my God;</t> <t>I will exalt you and praise your name,</t> <t>for in perfect faithfulness</t> <t>you have done wonderful things,</t> <t>things planned long ago.</t>
  2. 2<t>You have made the city a heap of rubble,</t> <t>the fortified town a ruin,</t> <t>the foreigners’ stronghold a city no more;</t> <t>it will never be rebuilt.</t>
  3. 3<t>Therefore strong peoples will honor you;</t> <t>cities of ruthless nations will revere you.</t>
  4. 4<t>You have been a refuge for the poor,</t> <t>a refuge for the needy in their distress,</t> <t>a shelter from the storm</t> <t>and a shade from the heat.</t> <t>For the breath of the ruthless</t> <t>is like a storm driving against a wall</t>
  5. 5<t>and like the heat of the desert.</t> <t>You silence the uproar of foreigners;</t> <t>as heat is reduced by the shadow of a cloud,</t> <t>so the song of the ruthless is stilled. <pb/></t>
  6. 6<t>On this mountain the LORD Almighty will prepare</t> <t>a feast of rich food for all peoples,</t> <t>a banquet of aged wine—</t> <t>the best of meats and the finest of wines.</t>
  7. 7<t>On this mountain he will destroy</t> <t>the shroud that enfolds all peoples,</t> <t>the sheet that covers all nations;</t>
  8. 8<t>he will swallow up death forever.</t> <t>The Sovereign LORD will wipe away the tears</t> <t>from all faces;</t> <t>he will remove his people’s disgrace</t> <t>from all the earth.</t> <t>The LORD has spoken.</t>
  9. 9<pb/>In that day they will say, <pb/><t>“Surely this is our God;</t> <t>we trusted in him, and he saved us.</t> <t>This is the LORD, we trusted in him;</t> <t>let us rejoice and be glad in his salvation.” <pb/></t>
  10. 10<t>The hand of the LORD will rest on this mountain;</t> <t>but Moab will be trampled in their land</t> <t>as straw is trampled down in the manure.</t>
  11. 11<t>They will stretch out their hands in it,</t> <t>as swimmers stretch out their hands to swim.</t> <t>God will bring down their pride</t> <t>despite the cleverness<f>[55]</f> of their hands.</t>
  12. 12<t>He will bring down your high fortified walls</t> <t>and lay them low;</t> <t>he will bring them down to the ground,</t> <t>to the very dust.</t>
