Zechariah 9

  1. 1<pb/>A prophecy: <pb/><t>The word of the LORD is against the land of Hadrak</t> <t>and will come to rest on Damascus—</t> <t>for the eyes of all people and all the tribes of Israel</t> <t>are on the LORD—<f>[20]</f></t>
  2. 2<t>and on Hamath too, which borders on it,</t> <t>and on Tyre and Sidon, though they are very skillful.</t>
  3. 3<t>Tyre has built herself a stronghold;</t> <t>she has heaped up silver like dust,</t> <t>and gold like the dirt of the streets.</t>
  4. 4<t>But the Lord will take away her possessions</t> <t>and destroy her power on the sea,</t> <t>and she will be consumed by fire.</t>
  5. 5<t>Ashkelon will see it and fear;</t> <t>Gaza will writhe in agony,</t> <t>and Ekron too, for her hope will wither.</t> <t>Gaza will lose her king</t> <t>and Ashkelon will be deserted.</t>
  6. 6<t>A mongrel people will occupy Ashdod,</t> <t>and I will put an end to the pride of the Philistines.</t>
  7. 7<t>I will take the blood from their mouths,</t> <t>the forbidden food from between their teeth.</t> <t>Those who are left will belong to our God</t> <t>and become a clan in Judah,</t> <t>and Ekron will be like the Jebusites.</t>
  8. 8<t>But I will encamp at my temple</t> <t>to guard it against marauding forces.</t> <t>Never again will an oppressor overrun my people,</t> <t>for now I am keeping watch.</t>
  9. 9<t>Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion!</t> <t>Shout, Daughter Jerusalem!</t> <t>See, your king comes to you,</t> <t>righteous and victorious,</t> <t>lowly and riding on a donkey,</t> <t>on a colt, the foal of a donkey.</t>
  10. 10<t>I will take away the chariots from Ephraim</t> <t>and the warhorses from Jerusalem,</t> <t>and the battle bow will be broken.</t> <t>He will proclaim peace to the nations.</t> <t>His rule will extend from sea to sea</t> <t>and from the River<f>[21]</f> to the ends of the earth.</t>
  11. 11<t>As for you, because of the blood of my covenant with you,</t> <t>I will free your prisoners from the waterless pit.</t>
  12. 12<t>Return to your fortress, you prisoners of hope;</t> <t>even now I announce that I will restore twice as much to you.</t>
  13. 13<t>I will bend Judah as I bend my bow</t> <t>and fill it with Ephraim.</t> <t>I will rouse your sons, Zion,</t> <t>against your sons, Greece,</t> <t>and make you like a warrior’s sword.</t>
  14. 14<t>Then the LORD will appear over them;</t> <t>his arrow will flash like lightning.</t> <t>The Sovereign LORD will sound the trumpet;</t> <t>he will march in the storms of the south,</t>
  15. 15<t>and the LORD Almighty will shield them.</t> <t>They will destroy</t> <t>and overcome with slingstones.</t> <t>They will drink and roar as with wine;</t> <t>they will be full like a bowl</t> <t>used for sprinkling<f>[22]</f> the corners of the altar.</t>
  16. 16<t>The LORD their God will save his people on that day</t> <t>as a shepherd saves his flock.</t> <t>They will sparkle in his land</t> <t>like jewels in a crown.</t>
  17. 17<t>How attractive and beautiful they will be!</t> <t>Grain will make the young men thrive,</t> <t>and new wine the young women.</t>
