Zechariah 10
- 1<pb/><t>Ask the LORD for rain in the springtime;</t> <t>it is the LORD who sends the thunderstorms.</t> <t>He gives showers of rain to all people,</t> <t>and plants of the field to everyone.</t>
- 2<t>The idols speak deceitfully,</t> <t>diviners see visions that lie;</t> <t>they tell dreams that are false,</t> <t>they give comfort in vain.</t> <t>Therefore the people wander like sheep</t> <t>oppressed for lack of a shepherd. <pb/></t>
- 3<t>“My anger burns against the shepherds,</t> <t>and I will punish the leaders;</t> <t>for the LORD Almighty will care</t> <t>for his flock, the people of Judah,</t> <t>and make them like a proud horse in battle.</t>
- 4<t>From Judah will come the cornerstone,</t> <t>from him the tent peg,</t> <t>from him the battle bow,</t> <t>from him every ruler.</t>
- 5<t>Together they<f>[23]</f> will be like warriors in battle</t> <t>trampling their enemy into the mud of the streets.</t> <t>They will fight because the LORD is with them,</t> <t>and they will put the enemy horsemen to shame. <pb/></t>
- 6<t>“I will strengthen Judah</t> <t>and save the tribes of Joseph.</t> <t>I will restore them</t> <t>because I have compassion on them.</t> <t>They will be as though</t> <t>I had not rejected them,</t> <t>for I am the LORD their God</t> <t>and I will answer them.</t>
- 7<t>The Ephraimites will become like warriors,</t> <t>and their hearts will be glad as with wine.</t> <t>Their children will see it and be joyful;</t> <t>their hearts will rejoice in the LORD.</t>
- 8<t>I will signal for them</t> <t>and gather them in.</t> <t>Surely I will redeem them;</t> <t>they will be as numerous as before.</t>
- 9<t>Though I scatter them among the peoples,</t> <t>yet in distant lands they will remember me.</t> <t>They and their children will survive,</t> <t>and they will return.</t>
- 10<t>I will bring them back from Egypt</t> <t>and gather them from Assyria.</t> <t>I will bring them to Gilead and Lebanon,</t> <t>and there will not be room enough for them.</t>
- 11<t>They will pass through the sea of trouble;</t> <t>the surging sea will be subdued</t> <t>and all the depths of the Nile will dry up.</t> <t>Assyria’s pride will be brought down</t> <t>and Egypt’s scepter will pass away.</t>
- 12<t>I will strengthen them in the LORD</t> <t>and in his name they will live securely,”</t> <t>declares the LORD.</t>
