Song of Solomon 1
- 1<pb/>Solomon’s Song of Songs.
- 2<pb/><t><f>[1]</f> Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth—</t> <t>for your love is more delightful than wine.</t>
- 3<t>Pleasing is the fragrance of your perfumes;</t> <t>your name is like perfume poured out.</t> <t>No wonder the young women love you!</t>
- 4<t>Take me away with you—let us hurry!</t> <t>Let the king bring me into his chambers.</t> <t>We rejoice and delight in you<f>[2]</f>;</t> <t>we will praise your love more than wine.</t> <t>How right they are to adore you! <pb/></t>
- 5<t>Dark am I, yet lovely,</t> <t>daughters of Jerusalem,</t> <t>dark like the tents of Kedar,</t> <t>like the tent curtains of Solomon.<f>[3]</f></t>
- 6<t>Do not stare at me because I am dark,</t> <t>because I am darkened by the sun.</t> <t>My mother’s sons were angry with me</t> <t>and made me take care of the vineyards;</t> <t>my own vineyard I had to neglect.</t>
- 7<t>Tell me, you whom I love,</t> <t>where you graze your flock</t> <t>and where you rest your sheep at midday.</t> <t>Why should I be like a veiled woman</t> <t>beside the flocks of your friends?</t>
- 8<t>If you do not know, most beautiful of women,</t> <t>follow the tracks of the sheep</t> <t>and graze your young goats</t> <t>by the tents of the shepherds.</t>
- 9<t>I liken you, my darling, to a mare</t> <t>among Pharaoh’s chariot horses.</t>
- 10<t>Your cheeks are beautiful with earrings,</t> <t>your neck with strings of jewels.</t>
- 11<t>We will make you earrings of gold,</t> <t>studded with silver.</t>
- 12<t>While the king was at his table,</t> <t>my perfume spread its fragrance.</t>
- 13<t>My beloved is to me a sachet of myrrh</t> <t>resting between my breasts.</t>
- 14<t>My beloved is to me a cluster of henna blossoms</t> <t>from the vineyards of En Gedi.</t>
- 15<t>How beautiful you are, my darling!</t> <t>Oh, how beautiful!</t> <t>Your eyes are doves.</t>
- 16<t>How handsome you are, my beloved!</t> <t>Oh, how charming!</t> <t>And our bed is verdant.</t>
- 17<t>The beams of our house are cedars;</t> <t>our rafters are firs.</t>
