Psalms 77
- 1<pb/><e>For the director of music. For Jeduthun. Of Asaph. A psalm.</e> <pb/><t>I cried out to God for help;</t> <t>I cried out to God to hear me.</t>
- 2<t>When I was in distress, I sought the Lord;</t> <t>at night I stretched out untiring hands,</t> <t>and I would not be comforted. <pb/></t>
- 3<t>I remembered you, God, and I groaned;</t> <t>I meditated, and my spirit grew faint.<f>[145]</f></t>
- 4<t>You kept my eyes from closing;</t> <t>I was too troubled to speak.</t>
- 5<t>I thought about the former days,</t> <t>the years of long ago;</t>
- 6<t>I remembered my songs in the night.</t> <t>My heart meditated and my spirit asked: <pb/></t>
- 7<t>“Will the Lord reject forever?</t> <t>Will he never show his favor again?</t>
- 8<t>Has his unfailing love vanished forever?</t> <t>Has his promise failed for all time?</t>
- 9<t>Has God forgotten to be merciful?</t> <t>Has he in anger withheld his compassion?” <pb/></t>
- 10<t>Then I thought, “To this I will appeal:</t> <t>the years when the Most High stretched out his right hand.</t>
- 11<t>I will remember the deeds of the LORD;</t> <t>yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago.</t>
- 12<t>I will consider all your works</t> <t>and meditate on all your mighty deeds.” <pb/></t>
- 13<t>Your ways, God, are holy.</t> <t>What god is as great as our God?</t>
- 14<t>You are the God who performs miracles;</t> <t>you display your power among the peoples.</t>
- 15<t>With your mighty arm you redeemed your people,</t> <t>the descendants of Jacob and Joseph. <pb/></t>
- 16<t>The waters saw you, God,</t> <t>the waters saw you and writhed;</t> <t>the very depths were convulsed.</t>
- 17<t>The clouds poured down water,</t> <t>the heavens resounded with thunder;</t> <t>your arrows flashed back and forth.</t>
- 18<t>Your thunder was heard in the whirlwind,</t> <t>your lightning lit up the world;</t> <t>the earth trembled and quaked.</t>
- 19<t>Your path led through the sea,</t> <t>your way through the mighty waters,</t> <t>though your footprints were not seen. <pb/></t>
- 20<t>You led your people like a flock</t> <t>by the hand of Moses and Aaron.</t>
