Psalms 72

  1. 1<pb/><e>Of Solomon.</e> <pb/><t>Endow the king with your justice, O God,</t> <t>the royal son with your righteousness.</t>
  2. 2<t>May he judge your people in righteousness,</t> <t>your afflicted ones with justice. <pb/></t>
  3. 3<t>May the mountains bring prosperity to the people,</t> <t>the hills the fruit of righteousness.</t>
  4. 4<t>May he defend the afflicted among the people</t> <t>and save the children of the needy;</t> <t>may he crush the oppressor.</t>
  5. 5<t>May he endure<f>[133]</f> as long as the sun,</t> <t>as long as the moon, through all generations.</t>
  6. 6<t>May he be like rain falling on a mown field,</t> <t>like showers watering the earth.</t>
  7. 7<t>In his days may the righteous flourish</t> <t>and prosperity abound till the moon is no more. <pb/></t>
  8. 8<t>May he rule from sea to sea</t> <t>and from the River<f>[134]</f> to the ends of the earth.</t>
  9. 9<t>May the desert tribes bow before him</t> <t>and his enemies lick the dust.</t>
  10. 10<t>May the kings of Tarshish and of distant shores</t> <t>bring tribute to him.</t> <t>May the kings of Sheba and Seba</t> <t>present him gifts.</t>
  11. 11<t>May all kings bow down to him</t> <t>and all nations serve him. <pb/></t>
  12. 12<t>For he will deliver the needy who cry out,</t> <t>the afflicted who have no one to help.</t>
  13. 13<t>He will take pity on the weak and the needy</t> <t>and save the needy from death.</t>
  14. 14<t>He will rescue them from oppression and violence,</t> <t>for precious is their blood in his sight. <pb/></t>
  15. 15<t>Long may he live!</t> <t>May gold from Sheba be given him.</t> <t>May people ever pray for him</t> <t>and bless him all day long.</t>
  16. 16<t>May grain abound throughout the land;</t> <t>on the tops of the hills may it sway.</t> <t>May the crops flourish like Lebanon</t> <t>and thrive<f>[135]</f> like the grass of the field.</t>
  17. 17<t>May his name endure forever;</t> <t>may it continue as long as the sun. <pb/>Then all nations will be blessed through him,<f>[136]</f></t> <t>and they will call him blessed. <pb/></t>
  18. 18<t>Praise be to the LORD God, the God of Israel,</t> <t>who alone does marvelous deeds.</t>
  19. 19<t>Praise be to his glorious name forever;</t> <t>may the whole earth be filled with his glory. <pb/>Amen and Amen. <pb/></t>
  20. 20<t>This concludes the prayers of David son of Jesse.</t>
