Psalms 68
- 1<pb/><e>For the director of music. Of David. A psalm. A song.</e> <pb/><t>May God arise, may his enemies be scattered;</t> <t>may his foes flee before him.</t>
- 2<t>May you blow them away like smoke—</t> <t>as wax melts before the fire,</t> <t>may the wicked perish before God.</t>
- 3<t>But may the righteous be glad</t> <t>and rejoice before God;</t> <t>may they be happy and joyful. <pb/></t>
- 4<t>Sing to God, sing in praise of his name,</t> <t>extol him who rides on the clouds<f>[122]</f>;</t> <t>rejoice before him—his name is the LORD.</t>
- 5<t>A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows,</t> <t>is God in his holy dwelling.</t>
- 6<t>God sets the lonely in families,<f>[123]</f></t> <t>he leads out the prisoners with singing;</t> <t>but the rebellious live in a sun-scorched land. <pb/></t>
- 7<t>When you, God, went out before your people,</t> <t>when you marched through the wilderness,<f>[124]</f></t>
- 8<t>the earth shook, the heavens poured down rain,</t> <t>before God, the One of Sinai,</t> <t>before God, the God of Israel.</t>
- 9<t>You gave abundant showers, O God;</t> <t>you refreshed your weary inheritance.</t>
- 10<t>Your people settled in it,</t> <t>and from your bounty, God, you provided for the poor. <pb/></t>
- 11<t>The Lord announces the word,</t> <t>and the women who proclaim it are a mighty throng:</t>
- 12<t>“Kings and armies flee in haste;</t> <t>the women at home divide the plunder.</t>
- 13<t>Even while you sleep among the sheep pens,<f>[125]</f></t> <t>the wings of my dove are sheathed with silver,</t> <t>its feathers with shining gold.”</t>
- 14<t>When the Almighty<f>[126]</f> scattered the kings in the land,</t> <t>it was like snow fallen on Mount Zalmon. <pb/></t>
- 15<t>Mount Bashan, majestic mountain,</t> <t>Mount Bashan, rugged mountain,</t>
- 16<t>why gaze in envy, you rugged mountain,</t> <t>at the mountain where God chooses to reign,</t> <t>where the LORD himself will dwell forever?</t>
- 17<t>The chariots of God are tens of thousands</t> <t>and thousands of thousands;</t> <t>the Lord has come from Sinai into his sanctuary.<f>[127]</f></t>
- 18<t>When you ascended on high,</t> <t>you took many captives;</t> <t>you received gifts from people,</t> <t>even from<f>[128]</f> the rebellious—</t> <t>that you,<f>[129]</f> LORD God, might dwell there. <pb/></t>
- 19<t>Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior,</t> <t>who daily bears our burdens.</t>
- 20<t>Our God is a God who saves;</t> <t>from the Sovereign LORD comes escape from death.</t>
- 21<t>Surely God will crush the heads of his enemies,</t> <t>the hairy crowns of those who go on in their sins.</t>
- 22<t>The Lord says, “I will bring them from Bashan;</t> <t>I will bring them from the depths of the sea,</t>
- 23<t>that your feet may wade in the blood of your foes,</t> <t>while the tongues of your dogs have their share.” <pb/></t>
- 24<t>Your procession, God, has come into view,</t> <t>the procession of my God and King into the sanctuary.</t>
- 25<t>In front are the singers, after them the musicians;</t> <t>with them are the young women playing the timbrels.</t>
- 26<t>Praise God in the great congregation;</t> <t>praise the LORD in the assembly of Israel.</t>
- 27<t>There is the little tribe of Benjamin, leading them,</t> <t>there the great throng of Judah’s princes,</t> <t>and there the princes of Zebulun and of Naphtali. <pb/></t>
- 28<t>Summon your power, God<f>[130]</f>;</t> <t>show us your strength, our God, as you have done before.</t>
- 29<t>Because of your temple at Jerusalem</t> <t>kings will bring you gifts.</t>
- 30<t>Rebuke the beast among the reeds,</t> <t>the herd of bulls among the calves of the nations.</t> <t>Humbled, may the beast bring bars of silver.</t> <t>Scatter the nations who delight in war.</t>
- 31<t>Envoys will come from Egypt;</t> <t>Cush<f>[131]</f> will submit herself to God. <pb/></t>
- 32<t>Sing to God, you kingdoms of the earth,</t> <t>sing praise to the Lord,</t>
- 33<t>to him who rides across the highest heavens, the ancient heavens,</t> <t>who thunders with mighty voice.</t>
- 34<t>Proclaim the power of God,</t> <t>whose majesty is over Israel,</t> <t>whose power is in the heavens.</t>
- 35<t>You, God, are awesome in your sanctuary;</t> <t>the God of Israel gives power and strength to his people. <pb/>Praise be to God!</t>
