Psalms 60
- 1<pb/><e>For the director of music. To the tune of “The Lily of the Covenant.” A miktam</e><f>[109]</f> of David. For teaching. When he fought Aram Naharaim<f>[110]</f> and Aram Zobah,<f>[111]</f> and when Joab returned and struck down twelve thousand Edomites in the Valley of Salt. <pb/><t>You have rejected us, God, and burst upon us;</t> <t>you have been angry—now restore us!</t>
- 2<t>You have shaken the land and torn it open;</t> <t>mend its fractures, for it is quaking.</t>
- 3<t>You have shown your people desperate times;</t> <t>you have given us wine that makes us stagger.</t>
- 4<t>But for those who fear you, you have raised a banner</t> <t>to be unfurled against the bow.<f>[112]</f> <pb/></t>
- 5<t>Save us and help us with your right hand,</t> <t>that those you love may be delivered.</t>
- 6<t>God has spoken from his sanctuary:</t> <t>“In triumph I will parcel out Shechem</t> <t>and measure off the Valley of Sukkoth.</t>
- 7<t>Gilead is mine, and Manasseh is mine;</t> <t>Ephraim is my helmet,</t> <t>Judah is my scepter.</t>
- 8<t>Moab is my washbasin,</t> <t>on Edom I toss my sandal;</t> <t>over Philistia I shout in triumph.” <pb/></t>
- 9<t>Who will bring me to the fortified city?</t> <t>Who will lead me to Edom?</t>
- 10<t>Is it not you, God, you who have now rejected us</t> <t>and no longer go out with our armies?</t>
- 11<t>Give us aid against the enemy,</t> <t>for human help is worthless.</t>
- 12<t>With God we will gain the victory,</t> <t>and he will trample down our enemies.</t>
