Psalms 52
- 1<pb/><e>For the director of music. A maskil</e><f>[91]</f> of David. When Doeg the Edomite had gone to Saul and told him: “David has gone to the house of Ahimelek.” <pb/><t>Why do you boast of evil, you mighty hero?</t> <t>Why do you boast all day long,</t> <t>you who are a disgrace in the eyes of God?</t>
- 2<t>You who practice deceit,</t> <t>your tongue plots destruction;</t> <t>it is like a sharpened razor.</t>
- 3<t>You love evil rather than good,</t> <t>falsehood rather than speaking the truth.<f>[92]</f></t>
- 4<t>You love every harmful word,</t> <t>you deceitful tongue! <pb/></t>
- 5<t>Surely God will bring you down to everlasting ruin:</t> <t>He will snatch you up and pluck you from your tent;</t> <t>he will uproot you from the land of the living.</t>
- 6<t>The righteous will see and fear;</t> <t>they will laugh at you, saying,</t>
- 7<t>“Here now is the man</t> <t>who did not make God his stronghold</t> <t>but trusted in his great wealth</t> <t>and grew strong by destroying others!” <pb/></t>
- 8<t>But I am like an olive tree</t> <t>flourishing in the house of God;</t> <t>I trust in God’s unfailing love</t> <t>for ever and ever.</t>
- 9<t>For what you have done I will always praise you</t> <t>in the presence of your faithful people.</t> <t>And I will hope in your name,</t> <t>for your name is good.</t>
