Psalms 50
- 1<pb/><e>A psalm of Asaph.</e> <pb/><t>The Mighty One, God, the LORD,</t> <t>speaks and summons the earth</t> <t>from the rising of the sun to where it sets.</t>
- 2<t>From Zion, perfect in beauty,</t> <t>God shines forth.</t>
- 3<t>Our God comes</t> <t>and will not be silent;</t> <t>a fire devours before him,</t> <t>and around him a tempest rages.</t>
- 4<t>He summons the heavens above,</t> <t>and the earth, that he may judge his people:</t>
- 5<t>“Gather to me this consecrated people,</t> <t>who made a covenant with me by sacrifice.”</t>
- 6<t>And the heavens proclaim his righteousness,</t> <t>for he is a God of justice.<f>[86]</f><f>[87]</f> <pb/></t>
- 7<t>“Listen, my people, and I will speak;</t> <t>I will testify against you, Israel:</t> <t>I am God, your God.</t>
- 8<t>I bring no charges against you concerning your sacrifices</t> <t>or concerning your burnt offerings, which are ever before me.</t>
- 9<t>I have no need of a bull from your stall</t> <t>or of goats from your pens,</t>
- 10<t>for every animal of the forest is mine,</t> <t>and the cattle on a thousand hills.</t>
- 11<t>I know every bird in the mountains,</t> <t>and the insects in the fields are mine.</t>
- 12<t>If I were hungry I would not tell you,</t> <t>for the world is mine, and all that is in it.</t>
- 13<t>Do I eat the flesh of bulls</t> <t>or drink the blood of goats? <pb/></t>
- 14<t>“Sacrifice thank offerings to God,</t> <t>fulfill your vows to the Most High,</t>
- 15<t>and call on me in the day of trouble;</t> <t>I will deliver you, and you will honor me.”</t>
- 16<pb/>But to the wicked person, God says: <pb/><t>“What right have you to recite my laws</t> <t>or take my covenant on your lips?</t>
- 17<t>You hate my instruction</t> <t>and cast my words behind you.</t>
- 18<t>When you see a thief, you join with him;</t> <t>you throw in your lot with adulterers.</t>
- 19<t>You use your mouth for evil</t> <t>and harness your tongue to deceit.</t>
- 20<t>You sit and testify against your brother</t> <t>and slander your own mother’s son.</t>
- 21<t>When you did these things and I kept silent,</t> <t>you thought I was exactly<f>[88]</f> like you.</t> <t>But I now arraign you</t> <t>and set my accusations before you. <pb/></t>
- 22<t>“Consider this, you who forget God,</t> <t>or I will tear you to pieces, with no one to rescue you:</t>
- 23<t>Those who sacrifice thank offerings honor me,</t> <t>and to the blameless<f>[89]</f> I will show my salvation.”</t>
