Psalms 5

  1. 1<pb/><e>For the director of music. For pipes. A psalm of David.</e> <pb/><t>Listen to my words, LORD,</t> <t>consider my lament.</t>
  2. 2<t>Hear my cry for help,</t> <t>my King and my God,</t> <t>for to you I pray. <pb/></t>
  3. 3<t>In the morning, LORD, you hear my voice;</t> <t>in the morning I lay my requests before you</t> <t>and wait expectantly.</t>
  4. 4<t>For you are not a God who is pleased with wickedness;</t> <t>with you, evil people are not welcome.</t>
  5. 5<t>The arrogant cannot stand</t> <t>in your presence.</t> <t>You hate all who do wrong;</t>
  6. 6<t>you destroy those who tell lies.</t> <t>The bloodthirsty and deceitful</t> <t>you, LORD, detest.</t>
  7. 7<t>But I, by your great love,</t> <t>can come into your house;</t> <t>in reverence I bow down</t> <t>toward your holy temple. <pb/></t>
  8. 8<t>Lead me, LORD, in your righteousness</t> <t>because of my enemies—</t> <t>make your way straight before me.</t>
  9. 9<t>Not a word from their mouth can be trusted;</t> <t>their heart is filled with malice.</t> <t>Their throat is an open grave;</t> <t>with their tongues they tell lies.</t>
  10. 10<t>Declare them guilty, O God!</t> <t>Let their intrigues be their downfall.</t> <t>Banish them for their many sins,</t> <t>for they have rebelled against you.</t>
  11. 11<t>But let all who take refuge in you be glad;</t> <t>let them ever sing for joy.</t> <t>Spread your protection over them,</t> <t>that those who love your name may rejoice in you. <pb/></t>
  12. 12<t>Surely, LORD, you bless the righteous;</t> <t>you surround them with your favor as with a shield.</t>
