Psalms 17
- 1<pb/><e>A prayer of David.</e> <pb/><t>Hear me, LORD, my plea is just;</t> <t>listen to my cry.</t> <t>Hear my prayer—</t> <t>it does not rise from deceitful lips.</t>
- 2<t>Let my vindication come from you;</t> <t>may your eyes see what is right. <pb/></t>
- 3<t>Though you probe my heart,</t> <t>though you examine me at night and test me,</t> <t>you will find that I have planned no evil;</t> <t>my mouth has not transgressed.</t>
- 4<t>Though people tried to bribe me,</t> <t>I have kept myself from the ways of the violent</t> <t>through what your lips have commanded.</t>
- 5<t>My steps have held to your paths;</t> <t>my feet have not stumbled. <pb/></t>
- 6<t>I call on you, my God, for you will answer me;</t> <t>turn your ear to me and hear my prayer.</t>
- 7<t>Show me the wonders of your great love,</t> <t>you who save by your right hand</t> <t>those who take refuge in you from their foes.</t>
- 8<t>Keep me as the apple of your eye;</t> <t>hide me in the shadow of your wings</t>
- 9<t>from the wicked who are out to destroy me,</t> <t>from my mortal enemies who surround me. <pb/></t>
- 10<t>They close up their callous hearts,</t> <t>and their mouths speak with arrogance.</t>
- 11<t>They have tracked me down, they now surround me,</t> <t>with eyes alert, to throw me to the ground.</t>
- 12<t>They are like a lion hungry for prey,</t> <t>like a fierce lion crouching in cover. <pb/></t>
- 13<t>Rise up, LORD, confront them, bring them down;</t> <t>with your sword rescue me from the wicked.</t>
- 14<t>By your hand save me from such people, LORD,</t> <t>from those of this world whose reward is in this life.</t> <t>May what you have stored up for the wicked fill their bellies;</t> <t>may their children gorge themselves on it,</t> <t>and may there be leftovers for their little ones. <pb/></t>
- 15<t>As for me, I will be vindicated and will see your face;</t> <t>when I awake, I will be satisfied with seeing your likeness.</t>
