Psalms 139

  1. 1<pb/><e>For the director of music. Of David. A psalm.</e> <pb/><t>You have searched me, LORD,</t> <t>and you know me.</t>
  2. 2<t>You know when I sit and when I rise;</t> <t>you perceive my thoughts from afar.</t>
  3. 3<t>You discern my going out and my lying down;</t> <t>you are familiar with all my ways.</t>
  4. 4<t>Before a word is on my tongue</t> <t>you, LORD, know it completely.</t>
  5. 5<t>You hem me in behind and before,</t> <t>and you lay your hand upon me.</t>
  6. 6<t>Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,</t> <t>too lofty for me to attain. <pb/></t>
  7. 7<t>Where can I go from your Spirit?</t> <t>Where can I flee from your presence?</t>
  8. 8<t>If I go up to the heavens, you are there;</t> <t>if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.</t>
  9. 9<t>If I rise on the wings of the dawn,</t> <t>if I settle on the far side of the sea,</t>
  10. 10<t>even there your hand will guide me,</t> <t>your right hand will hold me fast.</t>
  11. 11<t>If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me</t> <t>and the light become night around me,”</t>
  12. 12<t>even the darkness will not be dark to you;</t> <t>the night will shine like the day,</t> <t>for darkness is as light to you. <pb/></t>
  13. 13<t>For you created my inmost being;</t> <t>you knit me together in my mother’s womb.</t>
  14. 14<t>I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;</t> <t>your works are wonderful,</t> <t>I know that full well.</t>
  15. 15<t>My frame was not hidden from you</t> <t>when I was made in the secret place,</t> <t>when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.</t>
  16. 16<t>Your eyes saw my unformed body;</t> <t>all the days ordained for me were written in your book</t> <t>before one of them came to be.</t>
  17. 17<t>How precious to me are your thoughts,<f>[220]</f> God!</t> <t>How vast is the sum of them!</t>
  18. 18<t>Were I to count them,</t> <t>they would outnumber the grains of sand—</t> <t>when I awake, I am still with you. <pb/></t>
  19. 19<t>If only you, God, would slay the wicked!</t> <t>Away from me, you who are bloodthirsty!</t>
  20. 20<t>They speak of you with evil intent;</t> <t>your adversaries misuse your name.</t>
  21. 21<t>Do I not hate those who hate you, LORD,</t> <t>and abhor those who are in rebellion against you?</t>
  22. 22<t>I have nothing but hatred for them;</t> <t>I count them my enemies.</t>
  23. 23<t>Search me, God, and know my heart;</t> <t>test me and know my anxious thoughts.</t>
  24. 24<t>See if there is any offensive way in me,</t> <t>and lead me in the way everlasting.</t>
