Psalms 107
- 1<pb/><t>Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good;</t> <t>his love endures forever. <pb/></t>
- 2<t>Let the redeemed of the LORD tell their story—</t> <t>those he redeemed from the hand of the foe,</t>
- 3<t>those he gathered from the lands,</t> <t>from east and west, from north and south.<f>[192]</f> <pb/></t>
- 4<t>Some wandered in desert wastelands,</t> <t>finding no way to a city where they could settle.</t>
- 5<t>They were hungry and thirsty,</t> <t>and their lives ebbed away.</t>
- 6<t>Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble,</t> <t>and he delivered them from their distress.</t>
- 7<t>He led them by a straight way</t> <t>to a city where they could settle.</t>
- 8<t>Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love</t> <t>and his wonderful deeds for mankind,</t>
- 9<t>for he satisfies the thirsty</t> <t>and fills the hungry with good things. <pb/></t>
- 10<t>Some sat in darkness, in utter darkness,</t> <t>prisoners suffering in iron chains,</t>
- 11<t>because they rebelled against God’s commands</t> <t>and despised the plans of the Most High.</t>
- 12<t>So he subjected them to bitter labor;</t> <t>they stumbled, and there was no one to help.</t>
- 13<t>Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble,</t> <t>and he saved them from their distress.</t>
- 14<t>He brought them out of darkness, the utter darkness,</t> <t>and broke away their chains.</t>
- 15<t>Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love</t> <t>and his wonderful deeds for mankind,</t>
- 16<t>for he breaks down gates of bronze</t> <t>and cuts through bars of iron. <pb/></t>
- 17<t>Some became fools through their rebellious ways</t> <t>and suffered affliction because of their iniquities.</t>
- 18<t>They loathed all food</t> <t>and drew near the gates of death.</t>
- 19<t>Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble,</t> <t>and he saved them from their distress.</t>
- 20<t>He sent out his word and healed them;</t> <t>he rescued them from the grave.</t>
- 21<t>Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love</t> <t>and his wonderful deeds for mankind.</t>
- 22<t>Let them sacrifice thank offerings</t> <t>and tell of his works with songs of joy. <pb/></t>
- 23<t>Some went out on the sea in ships;</t> <t>they were merchants on the mighty waters.</t>
- 24<t>They saw the works of the LORD,</t> <t>his wonderful deeds in the deep.</t>
- 25<t>For he spoke and stirred up a tempest</t> <t>that lifted high the waves.</t>
- 26<t>They mounted up to the heavens and went down to the depths;</t> <t>in their peril their courage melted away.</t>
- 27<t>They reeled and staggered like drunkards;</t> <t>they were at their wits’ end.</t>
- 28<t>Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble,</t> <t>and he brought them out of their distress.</t>
- 29<t>He stilled the storm to a whisper;</t> <t>the waves of the sea<f>[193]</f> were hushed.</t>
- 30<t>They were glad when it grew calm,</t> <t>and he guided them to their desired haven.</t>
- 31<t>Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love</t> <t>and his wonderful deeds for mankind.</t>
- 32<t>Let them exalt him in the assembly of the people</t> <t>and praise him in the council of the elders. <pb/></t>
- 33<t>He turned rivers into a desert,</t> <t>flowing springs into thirsty ground,</t>
- 34<t>and fruitful land into a salt waste,</t> <t>because of the wickedness of those who lived there.</t>
- 35<t>He turned the desert into pools of water</t> <t>and the parched ground into flowing springs;</t>
- 36<t>there he brought the hungry to live,</t> <t>and they founded a city where they could settle.</t>
- 37<t>They sowed fields and planted vineyards</t> <t>that yielded a fruitful harvest;</t>
- 38<t>he blessed them, and their numbers greatly increased,</t> <t>and he did not let their herds diminish. <pb/></t>
- 39<t>Then their numbers decreased, and they were humbled</t> <t>by oppression, calamity and sorrow;</t>
- 40<t>he who pours contempt on nobles</t> <t>made them wander in a trackless waste.</t>
- 41<t>But he lifted the needy out of their affliction</t> <t>and increased their families like flocks.</t>
- 42<t>The upright see and rejoice,</t> <t>but all the wicked shut their mouths. <pb/></t>
- 43<t>Let the one who is wise heed these things</t> <t>and ponder the loving deeds of the LORD.</t>
