Proverbs 3
- 1<pb/><t>My son, do not forget my teaching,</t> <t>but keep my commands in your heart,</t>
- 2<t>for they will prolong your life many years</t> <t>and bring you peace and prosperity. <pb/></t>
- 3<t>Let love and faithfulness never leave you;</t> <t>bind them around your neck,</t> <t>write them on the tablet of your heart.</t>
- 4<t>Then you will win favor and a good name</t> <t>in the sight of God and man. <pb/></t>
- 5<t>Trust in the LORD with all your heart</t> <t>and lean not on your own understanding;</t>
- 6<t>in all your ways submit to him,</t> <t>and he will make your paths straight.<f>[6]</f> <pb/></t>
- 7<t>Do not be wise in your own eyes;</t> <t>fear the LORD and shun evil.</t>
- 8<t>This will bring health to your body</t> <t>and nourishment to your bones. <pb/></t>
- 9<t>Honor the LORD with your wealth,</t> <t>with the firstfruits of all your crops;</t>
- 10<t>then your barns will be filled to overflowing,</t> <t>and your vats will brim over with new wine. <pb/></t>
- 11<t>My son, do not despise the LORD’s discipline,</t> <t>and do not resent his rebuke,</t>
- 12<t>because the LORD disciplines those he loves,</t> <t>as a father the son he delights in.<f>[7]</f> <pb/></t>
- 13<t>Blessed are those who find wisdom,</t> <t>those who gain understanding,</t>
- 14<t>for she is more profitable than silver</t> <t>and yields better returns than gold.</t>
- 15<t>She is more precious than rubies;</t> <t>nothing you desire can compare with her.</t>
- 16<t>Long life is in her right hand;</t> <t>in her left hand are riches and honor.</t>
- 17<t>Her ways are pleasant ways,</t> <t>and all her paths are peace.</t>
- 18<t>She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her;</t> <t>those who hold her fast will be blessed. <pb/></t>
- 19<t>By wisdom the LORD laid the earth’s foundations,</t> <t>by understanding he set the heavens in place;</t>
- 20<t>by his knowledge the watery depths were divided,</t> <t>and the clouds let drop the dew. <pb/></t>
- 21<t>My son, do not let wisdom and understanding out of your sight,</t> <t>preserve sound judgment and discretion;</t>
- 22<t>they will be life for you,</t> <t>an ornament to grace your neck.</t>
- 23<t>Then you will go on your way in safety,</t> <t>and your foot will not stumble.</t>
- 24<t>When you lie down, you will not be afraid;</t> <t>when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.</t>
- 25<t>Have no fear of sudden disaster</t> <t>or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked,</t>
- 26<t>for the LORD will be at your side</t> <t>and will keep your foot from being snared. <pb/></t>
- 27<t>Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due,</t> <t>when it is in your power to act.</t>
- 28<t>Do not say to your neighbor,</t> <t>“Come back tomorrow and I’ll give it to you”—</t> <t>when you already have it with you.</t>
- 29<t>Do not plot harm against your neighbor,</t> <t>who lives trustfully near you.</t>
- 30<t>Do not accuse anyone for no reason—</t> <t>when they have done you no harm. <pb/></t>
- 31<t>Do not envy the violent</t> <t>or choose any of their ways. <pb/></t>
- 32<t>For the LORD detests the perverse</t> <t>but takes the upright into his confidence.</t>
- 33<t>The LORD’s curse is on the house of the wicked,</t> <t>but he blesses the home of the righteous.</t>
- 34<t>He mocks proud mockers</t> <t>but shows favor to the humble and oppressed.</t>
- 35<t>The wise inherit honor,</t> <t>but fools get only shame.</t>
