Job 40

  1. 1<pb/>The LORD said to Job:
  2. 2<pb/><t>“Will the one who contends with the Almighty correct him?</t> <t>Let him who accuses God answer him!”</t>
  3. 3<pb/>Then Job answered the LORD:
  4. 4<pb/><t>“I am unworthy—how can I reply to you?</t> <t>I put my hand over my mouth.</t>
  5. 5<t>I spoke once, but I have no answer—</t> <t>twice, but I will say no more.”</t>
  6. 6<pb/>Then the LORD spoke to Job out of the storm:
  7. 7<pb/><t>“Brace yourself like a man;</t> <t>I will question you,</t> <t>and you shall answer me. <pb/></t>
  8. 8<t>“Would you discredit my justice?</t> <t>Would you condemn me to justify yourself?</t>
  9. 9<t>Do you have an arm like God’s,</t> <t>and can your voice thunder like his?</t>
  10. 10<t>Then adorn yourself with glory and splendor,</t> <t>and clothe yourself in honor and majesty.</t>
  11. 11<t>Unleash the fury of your wrath,</t> <t>look at all who are proud and bring them low,</t>
  12. 12<t>look at all who are proud and humble them,</t> <t>crush the wicked where they stand.</t>
  13. 13<t>Bury them all in the dust together;</t> <t>shroud their faces in the grave.</t>
  14. 14<t>Then I myself will admit to you</t> <t>that your own right hand can save you. <pb/></t>
  15. 15<t>“Look at Behemoth,</t> <t>which I made along with you</t> <t>and which feeds on grass like an ox.</t>
  16. 16<t>What strength it has in its loins,</t> <t>what power in the muscles of its belly!</t>
  17. 17<t>Its tail sways like a cedar;</t> <t>the sinews of its thighs are close-knit.</t>
  18. 18<t>Its bones are tubes of bronze,</t> <t>its limbs like rods of iron.</t>
  19. 19<t>It ranks first among the works of God,</t> <t>yet its Maker can approach it with his sword.</t>
  20. 20<t>The hills bring it their produce,</t> <t>and all the wild animals play nearby.</t>
  21. 21<t>Under the lotus plants it lies,</t> <t>hidden among the reeds in the marsh.</t>
  22. 22<t>The lotuses conceal it in their shadow;</t> <t>the poplars by the stream surround it.</t>
  23. 23<t>A raging river does not alarm it;</t> <t>it is secure, though the Jordan should surge against its mouth.</t>
  24. 24<t>Can anyone capture it by the eyes,</t> <t>or trap it and pierce its nose?</t>
