Job 26

  1. 1<pb/>Then Job replied:
  2. 2<pb/><t>“How you have helped the powerless!</t> <t>How you have saved the arm that is feeble!</t>
  3. 3<t>What advice you have offered to one without wisdom!</t> <t>And what great insight you have displayed!</t>
  4. 4<t>Who has helped you utter these words?</t> <t>And whose spirit spoke from your mouth? <pb/></t>
  5. 5<t>“The dead are in deep anguish,</t> <t>those beneath the waters and all that live in them.</t>
  6. 6<t>The realm of the dead is naked before God;</t> <t>Destruction<f>[41]</f> lies uncovered.</t>
  7. 7<t>He spreads out the northern skies over empty space;</t> <t>he suspends the earth over nothing.</t>
  8. 8<t>He wraps up the waters in his clouds,</t> <t>yet the clouds do not burst under their weight.</t>
  9. 9<t>He covers the face of the full moon,</t> <t>spreading his clouds over it.</t>
  10. 10<t>He marks out the horizon on the face of the waters</t> <t>for a boundary between light and darkness.</t>
  11. 11<t>The pillars of the heavens quake,</t> <t>aghast at his rebuke.</t>
  12. 12<t>By his power he churned up the sea;</t> <t>by his wisdom he cut Rahab to pieces.</t>
  13. 13<t>By his breath the skies became fair;</t> <t>his hand pierced the gliding serpent.</t>
  14. 14<t>And these are but the outer fringe of his works;</t> <t>how faint the whisper we hear of him!</t> <t>Who then can understand the thunder of his power?”</t>
