Isaiah 45

  1. 1<pb/><t>“This is what the LORD says to his anointed,</t> <t>to Cyrus, whose right hand I take hold of</t> <t>to subdue nations before him</t> <t>and to strip kings of their armor,</t> <t>to open doors before him</t> <t>so that gates will not be shut:</t>
  2. 2<t>I will go before you</t> <t>and will level the mountains<f>[87]</f>;</t> <t>I will break down gates of bronze</t> <t>and cut through bars of iron.</t>
  3. 3<t>I will give you hidden treasures,</t> <t>riches stored in secret places,</t> <t>so that you may know that I am the LORD,</t> <t>the God of Israel, who summons you by name.</t>
  4. 4<t>For the sake of Jacob my servant,</t> <t>of Israel my chosen,</t> <t>I summon you by name</t> <t>and bestow on you a title of honor,</t> <t>though you do not acknowledge me.</t>
  5. 5<t>I am the LORD, and there is no other;</t> <t>apart from me there is no God.</t> <t>I will strengthen you,</t> <t>though you have not acknowledged me,</t>
  6. 6<t>so that from the rising of the sun</t> <t>to the place of its setting</t> <t>people may know there is none besides me.</t> <t>I am the LORD, and there is no other.</t>
  7. 7<t>I form the light and create darkness,</t> <t>I bring prosperity and create disaster;</t> <t>I, the LORD, do all these things. <pb/></t>
  8. 8<t>“You heavens above, rain down my righteousness;</t> <t>let the clouds shower it down.</t> <t>Let the earth open wide,</t> <t>let salvation spring up,</t> <t>let righteousness flourish with it;</t> <t>I, the LORD, have created it. <pb/></t>
  9. 9<t>“Woe to those who quarrel with their Maker,</t> <t>those who are nothing but potsherds</t> <t>among the potsherds on the ground.</t> <t>Does the clay say to the potter,</t> <t>‘What are you making?’</t> <t>Does your work say,</t> <t>‘The potter has no hands’?</t>
  10. 10<t>Woe to the one who says to a father,</t> <t>‘What have you begotten?’</t> <t>or to a mother,</t> <t>‘What have you brought to birth?’ <pb/></t>
  11. 11<t>“This is what the LORD says—</t> <t>the Holy One of Israel, and its Maker:</t> <t>Concerning things to come,</t> <t>do you question me about my children,</t> <t>or give me orders about the work of my hands?</t>
  12. 12<t>It is I who made the earth</t> <t>and created mankind on it.</t> <t>My own hands stretched out the heavens;</t> <t>I marshaled their starry hosts.</t>
  13. 13<t>I will raise up Cyrus<f>[88]</f> in my righteousness:</t> <t>I will make all his ways straight.</t> <t>He will rebuild my city</t> <t>and set my exiles free,</t> <t>but not for a price or reward,</t> <t>says the LORD Almighty.”</t>
  14. 14<pb/>This is what the LORD says: <pb/><t>“The products of Egypt and the merchandise of Cush,<f>[89]</f></t> <t>and those tall Sabeans—</t> <t>they will come over to you</t> <t>and will be yours;</t> <t>they will trudge behind you,</t> <t>coming over to you in chains.</t> <t>They will bow down before you</t> <t>and plead with you, saying,</t> <t>‘Surely God is with you, and there is no other;</t> <t>there is no other god.’ ” <pb/></t>
  15. 15<t>Truly you are a God who has been hiding himself,</t> <t>the God and Savior of Israel.</t>
  16. 16<t>All the makers of idols will be put to shame and disgraced;</t> <t>they will go off into disgrace together.</t>
  17. 17<t>But Israel will be saved by the LORD</t> <t>with an everlasting salvation;</t> <t>you will never be put to shame or disgraced,</t> <t>to ages everlasting. <pb/></t>
  18. 18<t>For this is what the LORD says—</t> <t>he who created the heavens,</t> <t>he is God;</t> <t>he who fashioned and made the earth,</t> <t>he founded it;</t> <t>he did not create it to be empty,</t> <t>but formed it to be inhabited—</t> <t>he says:</t> <t>“I am the LORD,</t> <t>and there is no other.</t>
  19. 19<t>I have not spoken in secret,</t> <t>from somewhere in a land of darkness;</t> <t>I have not said to Jacob’s descendants,</t> <t>‘Seek me in vain.’</t> <t>I, the LORD, speak the truth;</t> <t>I declare what is right. <pb/></t>
  20. 20<t>“Gather together and come;</t> <t>assemble, you fugitives from the nations.</t> <t>Ignorant are those who carry about idols of wood,</t> <t>who pray to gods that cannot save.</t>
  21. 21<t>Declare what is to be, present it—</t> <t>let them take counsel together.</t> <t>Who foretold this long ago,</t> <t>who declared it from the distant past?</t> <t>Was it not I, the LORD?</t> <t>And there is no God apart from me,</t> <t>a righteous God and a Savior;</t> <t>there is none but me. <pb/></t>
  22. 22<t>“Turn to me and be saved,</t> <t>all you ends of the earth;</t> <t>for I am God, and there is no other.</t>
  23. 23<t>By myself I have sworn,</t> <t>my mouth has uttered in all integrity</t> <t>a word that will not be revoked:</t> <t>Before me every knee will bow;</t> <t>by me every tongue will swear.</t>
  24. 24<t>They will say of me, ‘In the LORD alone</t> <t>are deliverance and strength.’ ”</t> <t>All who have raged against him</t> <t>will come to him and be put to shame.</t>
  25. 25<t>But all the descendants of Israel</t> <t>will find deliverance in the LORD</t> <t>and will make their boast in him.</t>
