Isaiah 32
- 1<pb/><t>See, a king will reign in righteousness</t> <t>and rulers will rule with justice.</t>
- 2<t>Each one will be like a shelter from the wind</t> <t>and a refuge from the storm,</t> <t>like streams of water in the desert</t> <t>and the shadow of a great rock in a thirsty land. <pb/></t>
- 3<t>Then the eyes of those who see will no longer be closed,</t> <t>and the ears of those who hear will listen.</t>
- 4<t>The fearful heart will know and understand,</t> <t>and the stammering tongue will be fluent and clear.</t>
- 5<t>No longer will the fool be called noble</t> <t>nor the scoundrel be highly respected.</t>
- 6<t>For fools speak folly,</t> <t>their hearts are bent on evil:</t> <t>They practice ungodliness</t> <t>and spread error concerning the LORD;</t> <t>the hungry they leave empty</t> <t>and from the thirsty they withhold water.</t>
- 7<t>Scoundrels use wicked methods,</t> <t>they make up evil schemes</t> <t>to destroy the poor with lies,</t> <t>even when the plea of the needy is just.</t>
- 8<t>But the noble make noble plans,</t> <t>and by noble deeds they stand.</t>
- 9<t>You women who are so complacent,</t> <t>rise up and listen to me;</t> <t>you daughters who feel secure,</t> <t>hear what I have to say!</t>
- 10<t>In little more than a year</t> <t>you who feel secure will tremble;</t> <t>the grape harvest will fail,</t> <t>and the harvest of fruit will not come.</t>
- 11<t>Tremble, you complacent women;</t> <t>shudder, you daughters who feel secure!</t> <t>Strip off your fine clothes</t> <t>and wrap yourselves in rags.</t>
- 12<t>Beat your breasts for the pleasant fields,</t> <t>for the fruitful vines</t>
- 13<t>and for the land of my people,</t> <t>a land overgrown with thorns and briers—</t> <t>yes, mourn for all houses of merriment</t> <t>and for this city of revelry.</t>
- 14<t>The fortress will be abandoned,</t> <t>the noisy city deserted;</t> <t>citadel and watchtower will become a wasteland forever,</t> <t>the delight of donkeys, a pasture for flocks,</t>
- 15<t>till the Spirit is poured on us from on high,</t> <t>and the desert becomes a fertile field,</t> <t>and the fertile field seems like a forest.</t>
- 16<t>The LORD’s justice will dwell in the desert,</t> <t>his righteousness live in the fertile field.</t>
- 17<t>The fruit of that righteousness will be peace;</t> <t>its effect will be quietness and confidence forever.</t>
- 18<t>My people will live in peaceful dwelling places,</t> <t>in secure homes,</t> <t>in undisturbed places of rest.</t>
- 19<t>Though hail flattens the forest</t> <t>and the city is leveled completely,</t>
- 20<t>how blessed you will be,</t> <t>sowing your seed by every stream,</t> <t>and letting your cattle and donkeys range free.</t>
