Isaiah 27
- 1<pb/>In that day, <pb/><t>the LORD will punish with his sword—</t> <t>his fierce, great and powerful sword—</t> <t>Leviathan the gliding serpent,</t> <t>Leviathan the coiling serpent;</t> <t>he will slay the monster of the sea.</t>
- 2<pb/>In that day— <pb/><t>“Sing about a fruitful vineyard:</t>
- 3<t>I, the LORD, watch over it;</t> <t>I water it continually.</t> <t>I guard it day and night</t> <t>so that no one may harm it.</t>
- 4<t>I am not angry.</t> <t>If only there were briers and thorns confronting me!</t> <t>I would march against them in battle;</t> <t>I would set them all on fire.</t>
- 5<t>Or else let them come to me for refuge;</t> <t>let them make peace with me,</t> <t>yes, let them make peace with me.” <pb/></t>
- 6<t>In days to come Jacob will take root,</t> <t>Israel will bud and blossom</t> <t>and fill all the world with fruit. <pb/></t>
- 7<t>Has the LORD struck her</t> <t>as he struck down those who struck her?</t> <t>Has she been killed</t> <t>as those were killed who killed her?</t>
- 8<t>By warfare<f>[58]</f> and exile you contend with her—</t> <t>with his fierce blast he drives her out,</t> <t>as on a day the east wind blows.</t>
- 9<t>By this, then, will Jacob’s guilt be atoned for,</t> <t>and this will be the full fruit of the removal of his sin:</t> <t>When he makes all the altar stones</t> <t>to be like limestone crushed to pieces,</t> <t>no Asherah poles<f>[59]</f> or incense altars</t> <t>will be left standing.</t>
- 10<t>The fortified city stands desolate,</t> <t>an abandoned settlement, forsaken like the wilderness;</t> <t>there the calves graze,</t> <t>there they lie down;</t> <t>they strip its branches bare.</t>
- 11<t>When its twigs are dry, they are broken off</t> <t>and women come and make fires with them.</t> <t>For this is a people without understanding;</t> <t>so their Maker has no compassion on them,</t> <t>and their Creator shows them no favor.</t>
- 12<pb/>In that day the LORD will thresh from the flowing Euphrates to the Wadi of Egypt, and you, Israel, will be gathered up one by one.
- 13And in that day a great trumpet will sound. Those who were perishing in Assyria and those who were exiled in Egypt will come and worship the LORD on the holy mountain in Jerusalem.
