Isaiah 2
- 1<pb/>This is what Isaiah son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem:
- 2<pb/>In the last days <pb/><t>the mountain of the LORD’s temple will be established</t> <t>as the highest of the mountains;</t> <t>it will be exalted above the hills,</t> <t>and all nations will stream to it.</t>
- 3<pb/>Many peoples will come and say, <pb/><t>“Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD,</t> <t>to the temple of the God of Jacob.</t> <t>He will teach us his ways,</t> <t>so that we may walk in his paths.”</t> <t>The law will go out from Zion,</t> <t>the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.</t>
- 4<t>He will judge between the nations</t> <t>and will settle disputes for many peoples.</t> <t>They will beat their swords into plowshares</t> <t>and their spears into pruning hooks.</t> <t>Nation will not take up sword against nation,</t> <t>nor will they train for war anymore. <pb/></t>
- 5<t>Come, descendants of Jacob,</t> <t>let us walk in the light of the LORD.</t>
- 6<t>You, LORD, have abandoned your people,</t> <t>the descendants of Jacob.</t> <t>They are full of superstitions from the East;</t> <t>they practice divination like the Philistines</t> <t>and embrace pagan customs.</t>
- 7<t>Their land is full of silver and gold;</t> <t>there is no end to their treasures.</t> <t>Their land is full of horses;</t> <t>there is no end to their chariots.</t>
- 8<t>Their land is full of idols;</t> <t>they bow down to the work of their hands,</t> <t>to what their fingers have made.</t>
- 9<t>So people will be brought low</t> <t>and everyone humbled—</t> <t>do not forgive them.<f>[3]</f> <pb/></t>
- 10<t>Go into the rocks, hide in the ground</t> <t>from the fearful presence of the LORD</t> <t>and the splendor of his majesty!</t>
- 11<t>The eyes of the arrogant will be humbled</t> <t>and human pride brought low;</t> <t>the LORD alone will be exalted in that day. <pb/></t>
- 12<t>The LORD Almighty has a day in store</t> <t>for all the proud and lofty,</t> <t>for all that is exalted</t> <t>(and they will be humbled),</t>
- 13<t>for all the cedars of Lebanon, tall and lofty,</t> <t>and all the oaks of Bashan,</t>
- 14<t>for all the towering mountains</t> <t>and all the high hills,</t>
- 15<t>for every lofty tower</t> <t>and every fortified wall,</t>
- 16<t>for every trading ship<f>[4]</f></t> <t>and every stately vessel.</t>
- 17<t>The arrogance of man will be brought low</t> <t>and human pride humbled;</t> <t>the LORD alone will be exalted in that day,</t>
- 18<t>and the idols will totally disappear. <pb/></t>
- 19<t>People will flee to caves in the rocks</t> <t>and to holes in the ground</t> <t>from the fearful presence of the LORD</t> <t>and the splendor of his majesty,</t> <t>when he rises to shake the earth.</t>
- 20<t>In that day people will throw away</t> <t>to the moles and bats</t> <t>their idols of silver and idols of gold,</t> <t>which they made to worship.</t>
- 21<t>They will flee to caverns in the rocks</t> <t>and to the overhanging crags</t> <t>from the fearful presence of the LORD</t> <t>and the splendor of his majesty,</t> <t>when he rises to shake the earth. <pb/></t>
- 22<t>Stop trusting in mere humans,</t> <t>who have but a breath in their nostrils.</t> <t>Why hold them in esteem?</t>
