Isaiah 18

  1. 1<pb/><t>Woe to the land of whirring wings<f>[43]</f></t> <t>along the rivers of Cush,<f>[44]</f></t>
  2. 2<t>which sends envoys by sea</t> <t>in papyrus boats over the water. <pb/>Go, swift messengers,</t> <t>to a people tall and smooth-skinned,</t> <t>to a people feared far and wide,</t> <t>an aggressive nation of strange speech,</t> <t>whose land is divided by rivers. <pb/></t>
  3. 3<t>All you people of the world,</t> <t>you who live on the earth,</t> <t>when a banner is raised on the mountains,</t> <t>you will see it,</t> <t>and when a trumpet sounds,</t> <t>you will hear it.</t>
  4. 4<t>This is what the LORD says to me:</t> <t>“I will remain quiet and will look on from my dwelling place,</t> <t>like shimmering heat in the sunshine,</t> <t>like a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest.”</t>
  5. 5<t>For, before the harvest, when the blossom is gone</t> <t>and the flower becomes a ripening grape,</t> <t>he will cut off the shoots with pruning knives,</t> <t>and cut down and take away the spreading branches.</t>
  6. 6<t>They will all be left to the mountain birds of prey</t> <t>and to the wild animals;</t> <t>the birds will feed on them all summer,</t> <t>the wild animals all winter.</t>
  7. 7<pb/>At that time gifts will be brought to the LORD Almighty <pb/><t>from a people tall and smooth-skinned,</t> <t>from a people feared far and wide,</t> <t>an aggressive nation of strange speech,</t> <t>whose land is divided by rivers—</t> <pb/>the gifts will be brought to Mount Zion, the place of the Name of the LORD Almighty.
