Hosea 5

  1. 1<pb/><t>“Hear this, you priests!</t> <t>Pay attention, you Israelites!</t> <t>Listen, royal house!</t> <t>This judgment is against you:</t> <t>You have been a snare at Mizpah,</t> <t>a net spread out on Tabor.</t>
  2. 2<t>The rebels are knee-deep in slaughter.</t> <t>I will discipline all of them.</t>
  3. 3<t>I know all about Ephraim;</t> <t>Israel is not hidden from me.</t> <t>Ephraim, you have now turned to prostitution;</t> <t>Israel is corrupt. <pb/></t>
  4. 4<t>“Their deeds do not permit them</t> <t>to return to their God.</t> <t>A spirit of prostitution is in their heart;</t> <t>they do not acknowledge the LORD.</t>
  5. 5<t>Israel’s arrogance testifies against them;</t> <t>the Israelites, even Ephraim, stumble in their sin;</t> <t>Judah also stumbles with them.</t>
  6. 6<t>When they go with their flocks and herds</t> <t>to seek the LORD,</t> <t>they will not find him;</t> <t>he has withdrawn himself from them.</t>
  7. 7<t>They are unfaithful to the LORD;</t> <t>they give birth to illegitimate children.</t> <t>When they celebrate their New Moon feasts,</t> <t>he will devour<f>[18]</f> their fields. <pb/></t>
  8. 8<t>“Sound the trumpet in Gibeah,</t> <t>the horn in Ramah.</t> <t>Raise the battle cry in Beth Aven<f>[19]</f>;</t> <t>lead on, Benjamin.</t>
  9. 9<t>Ephraim will be laid waste</t> <t>on the day of reckoning.</t> <t>Among the tribes of Israel</t> <t>I proclaim what is certain.</t>
  10. 10<t>Judah’s leaders are like those</t> <t>who move boundary stones.</t> <t>I will pour out my wrath on them</t> <t>like a flood of water.</t>
  11. 11<t>Ephraim is oppressed,</t> <t>trampled in judgment,</t> <t>intent on pursuing idols.<f>[20]</f></t>
  12. 12<t>I am like a moth to Ephraim,</t> <t>like rot to the people of Judah. <pb/></t>
  13. 13<t>“When Ephraim saw his sickness,</t> <t>and Judah his sores,</t> <t>then Ephraim turned to Assyria,</t> <t>and sent to the great king for help.</t> <t>But he is not able to cure you,</t> <t>not able to heal your sores.</t>
  14. 14<t>For I will be like a lion to Ephraim,</t> <t>like a great lion to Judah.</t> <t>I will tear them to pieces and go away;</t> <t>I will carry them off, with no one to rescue them.</t>
  15. 15<t>Then I will return to my lair</t> <t>until they have borne their guilt</t> <t>and seek my face—</t> <t>in their misery</t> <t>they will earnestly seek me.”</t>
