  1. 1<pb/><t><f>[35]</f>Return, Israel, to the LORD your God.</t> <t>Your sins have been your downfall!</t>
  2. 2<t>Take words with you</t> <t>and return to the LORD.</t> <t>Say to him:</t> <t>“Forgive all our sins</t> <t>and receive us graciously,</t> <t>that we may offer the fruit of our lips.<f>[36]</f></t>
  3. 3<t>Assyria cannot save us;</t> <t>we will not mount warhorses.</t> <t>We will never again say ‘Our gods’</t> <t>to what our own hands have made,</t> <t>for in you the fatherless find compassion.” <pb/></t>
  4. 4<t>“I will heal their waywardness</t> <t>and love them freely,</t> <t>for my anger has turned away from them.</t>
  5. 5<t>I will be like the dew to Israel;</t> <t>he will blossom like a lily.</t> <t>Like a cedar of Lebanon</t> <t>he will send down his roots;</t>
  6. 6<t>his young shoots will grow.</t> <t>His splendor will be like an olive tree,</t> <t>his fragrance like a cedar of Lebanon.</t>
  7. 7<t>People will dwell again in his shade;</t> <t>they will flourish like the grain,</t> <t>they will blossom like the vine—</t> <t>Israel’s fame will be like the wine of Lebanon.</t>
  8. 8<t>Ephraim, what more have I<f>[37]</f> to do with idols?</t> <t>I will answer him and care for him.</t> <t>I am like a flourishing juniper;</t> <t>your fruitfulness comes from me.” <pb/></t>
  9. 9<t>Who is wise? Let them realize these things.</t> <t>Who is discerning? Let them understand.</t> <t>The ways of the LORD are right;</t> <t>the righteous walk in them,</t> <t>but the rebellious stumble in them.</t>
