Ecclesiastes 11

  1. 1<pb/><t>Ship your grain across the sea;</t> <t>after many days you may receive a return.</t>
  2. 2<t>Invest in seven ventures, yes, in eight;</t> <t>you do not know what disaster may come upon the land. <pb/></t>
  3. 3<t>If clouds are full of water,</t> <t>they pour rain on the earth.</t> <t>Whether a tree falls to the south or to the north,</t> <t>in the place where it falls, there it will lie.</t>
  4. 4<t>Whoever watches the wind will not plant;</t> <t>whoever looks at the clouds will not reap. <pb/></t>
  5. 5<t>As you do not know the path of the wind,</t> <t>or how the body is formed<f>[15]</f> in a mother’s womb,</t> <t>so you cannot understand the work of God,</t> <t>the Maker of all things. <pb/></t>
  6. 6<t>Sow your seed in the morning,</t> <t>and at evening let your hands not be idle,</t> <t>for you do not know which will succeed,</t> <t>whether this or that,</t> <t>or whether both will do equally well.</t>
  7. 7<t>Light is sweet,</t> <t>and it pleases the eyes to see the sun.</t>
  8. 8<t>However many years anyone may live,</t> <t>let them enjoy them all.</t> <t>But let them remember the days of darkness,</t> <t>for there will be many.</t> <t>Everything to come is meaningless. <pb/></t>
  9. 9<t>You who are young, be happy while you are young,</t> <t>and let your heart give you joy in the days of your youth.</t> <t>Follow the ways of your heart</t> <t>and whatever your eyes see,</t> <t>but know that for all these things</t> <t>God will bring you into judgment.</t>
  10. 10<t>So then, banish anxiety from your heart</t> <t>and cast off the troubles of your body,</t> <t>for youth and vigor are meaningless.</t>
