Amos 2
- 1<pb/>This is what the LORD says: <pb/><t>“For three sins of Moab,</t> <t>even for four, I will not relent.</t> <t>Because he burned to ashes</t> <t>the bones of Edom’s king,</t>
- 2<t>I will send fire on Moab</t> <t>that will consume the fortresses of Kerioth.<f>[6]</f></t> <t>Moab will go down in great tumult</t> <t>amid war cries and the blast of the trumpet.</t>
- 3<t>I will destroy her ruler</t> <t>and kill all her officials with him,”</t> <t>says the LORD.</t>
- 4<pb/>This is what the LORD says: <pb/><t>“For three sins of Judah,</t> <t>even for four, I will not relent.</t> <t>Because they have rejected the law of the LORD</t> <t>and have not kept his decrees,</t> <t>because they have been led astray by false gods,<f>[7]</f></t> <t>the gods<f>[8]</f> their ancestors followed,</t>
- 5<t>I will send fire on Judah</t> <t>that will consume the fortresses of Jerusalem.”</t>
- 6<pb/>This is what the LORD says: <pb/><t>“For three sins of Israel,</t> <t>even for four, I will not relent.</t> <t>They sell the innocent for silver,</t> <t>and the needy for a pair of sandals.</t>
- 7<t>They trample on the heads of the poor</t> <t>as on the dust of the ground</t> <t>and deny justice to the oppressed.</t> <t>Father and son use the same girl</t> <t>and so profane my holy name.</t>
- 8<t>They lie down beside every altar</t> <t>on garments taken in pledge.</t> <t>In the house of their god</t> <t>they drink wine taken as fines. <pb/></t>
- 9<t>“Yet I destroyed the Amorites before them,</t> <t>though they were tall as the cedars</t> <t>and strong as the oaks.</t> <t>I destroyed their fruit above</t> <t>and their roots below.</t>
- 10<t>I brought you up out of Egypt</t> <t>and led you forty years in the wilderness</t> <t>to give you the land of the Amorites. <pb/></t>
- 11<t>“I also raised up prophets from among your children</t> <t>and Nazirites from among your youths.</t> <t>Is this not true, people of Israel?”</t> <t>declares the LORD.</t>
- 12<t>“But you made the Nazirites drink wine</t> <t>and commanded the prophets not to prophesy. <pb/></t>
- 13<t>“Now then, I will crush you</t> <t>as a cart crushes when loaded with grain.</t>
- 14<t>The swift will not escape,</t> <t>the strong will not muster their strength,</t> <t>and the warrior will not save his life.</t>
- 15<t>The archer will not stand his ground,</t> <t>the fleet-footed soldier will not get away,</t> <t>and the horseman will not save his life.</t>
- 16<t>Even the bravest warriors</t> <t>will flee naked on that day,”</t> <t>declares the LORD.</t>
