- 1<pb/><t>These were the sons of Israel: <pb/>Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun,</t>
- 2<t>Dan, Joseph, Benjamin, Naphtali, Gad and Asher. <pb/></t>
- 3<t>The sons of Judah: <pb/>Er, Onan and Shelah. These three were born to him by a Canaanite woman, the daughter of Shua. Er, Judah’s firstborn, was wicked in the LORD’s sight; so the LORD put him to death.</t>
- 4<t>Judah’s daughter-in-law Tamar bore Perez and Zerah to Judah. He had five sons in all. <pb/></t>
- 5<t>The sons of Perez: <pb/>Hezron and Hamul. <pb/></t>
- 6<t>The sons of Zerah: <pb/>Zimri, Ethan, Heman, Kalkol and Darda<f>[18]</f>—five in all. <pb/></t>
- 7<t>The son of Karmi: <pb/>Achar,<f>[19]</f> who brought trouble on Israel by violating the ban on taking devoted things.<f>[20]</f> <pb/></t>
- 8<t>The son of Ethan: <pb/>Azariah. <pb/></t>
- 9<t>The sons born to Hezron were: <pb/>Jerahmeel, Ram and Caleb.<f>[21]</f> <pb/></t>
- 10<t>Ram was the father of <pb/>Amminadab, and Amminadab the father of Nahshon, the leader of the people of Judah.</t>
- 11<t>Nahshon was the father of Salmon,<f>[22]</f> Salmon the father of Boaz,</t>
- 12<t>Boaz the father of Obed and Obed the father of Jesse. <pb/></t>
- 13<t>Jesse was the father of <pb/>Eliab his firstborn; the second son was Abinadab, the third Shimea,</t>
- 14<t>the fourth Nethanel, the fifth Raddai,</t>
- 15<t>the sixth Ozem and the seventh David.</t>
- 16<t>Their sisters were Zeruiah and Abigail. Zeruiah’s three sons were Abishai, Joab and Asahel.</t>
- 17<t>Abigail was the mother of Amasa, whose father was Jether the Ishmaelite. <pb/></t>
- 18<t>Caleb son of Hezron had children by his wife Azubah (and by Jerioth). These were her sons: Jesher, Shobab and Ardon.</t>
- 19<t>When Azubah died, Caleb married Ephrath, who bore him Hur.</t>
- 20<t>Hur was the father of Uri, and Uri the father of Bezalel. <pb/></t>
- 21<t>Later, Hezron, when he was sixty years old, married the daughter of Makir the father of Gilead. He made love to her, and she bore him Segub.</t>
- 22<t>Segub was the father of Jair, who controlled twenty-three towns in Gilead.</t>
- 23<t>(But Geshur and Aram captured Havvoth Jair,<f>[23]</f> as well as Kenath with its surrounding settlements—sixty towns.) All these were descendants of Makir the father of Gilead. <pb/></t>
- 24<t>After Hezron died in Caleb Ephrathah, Abijah the wife of Hezron bore him Ashhur the father<f>[24]</f> of Tekoa. <pb/></t>
- 25<t>The sons of Jerahmeel the firstborn of Hezron: <pb/>Ram his firstborn, Bunah, Oren, Ozem and<f>[25]</f> Ahijah.</t>
- 26<t>Jerahmeel had another wife, whose name was Atarah; she was the mother of Onam. <pb/></t>
- 27<t>The sons of Ram the firstborn of Jerahmeel: <pb/>Maaz, Jamin and Eker. <pb/></t>
- 28<t>The sons of Onam: <pb/>Shammai and Jada. <pb/>The sons of Shammai: <pb/>Nadab and Abishur. <pb/></t>
- 29<t>Abishur’s wife was named Abihail, who bore him Ahban and Molid. <pb/></t>
- 30<t>The sons of Nadab: <pb/>Seled and Appaim. Seled died without children. <pb/></t>
- 31<t>The son of Appaim: <pb/>Ishi, who was the father of Sheshan. <pb/>Sheshan was the father of Ahlai. <pb/></t>
- 32<t>The sons of Jada, Shammai’s brother: <pb/>Jether and Jonathan. Jether died without children. <pb/></t>
- 33<t>The sons of Jonathan: <pb/>Peleth and Zaza. <pb/>These were the descendants of Jerahmeel. <pb/></t>
- 34<t>Sheshan had no sons—only daughters. <pb/>He had an Egyptian servant named Jarha.</t>
- 35<t>Sheshan gave his daughter in marriage to his servant Jarha, and she bore him Attai. <pb/></t>
- 36<t>Attai was the father of Nathan, <pb/>Nathan the father of Zabad, <pb/></t>
- 37<t>Zabad the father of Ephlal, <pb/>Ephlal the father of Obed, <pb/></t>
- 38<t>Obed the father of Jehu, <pb/>Jehu the father of Azariah, <pb/></t>
- 39<t>Azariah the father of Helez, <pb/>Helez the father of Eleasah, <pb/></t>
- 40<t>Eleasah the father of Sismai, <pb/>Sismai the father of Shallum, <pb/></t>
- 41<t>Shallum the father of Jekamiah, <pb/>and Jekamiah the father of Elishama. <pb/></t>
- 42<t>The sons of Caleb the brother of Jerahmeel: <pb/>Mesha his firstborn, who was the father of Ziph, and his son Mareshah,<f>[26]</f> who was the father of Hebron. <pb/></t>
- 43<t>The sons of Hebron: <pb/>Korah, Tappuah, Rekem and Shema.</t>
- 44<t>Shema was the father of Raham, and Raham the father of Jorkeam. Rekem was the father of Shammai.</t>
- 45<t>The son of Shammai was Maon, and Maon was the father of Beth Zur. <pb/></t>
- 46<t>Caleb’s concubine Ephah was the mother of Haran, Moza and Gazez. Haran was the father of Gazez. <pb/></t>
- 47<t>The sons of Jahdai: <pb/>Regem, Jotham, Geshan, Pelet, Ephah and Shaaph. <pb/></t>
- 48<t>Caleb’s concubine Maakah was the mother of Sheber and Tirhanah.</t>
- 49<t>She also gave birth to Shaaph the father of Madmannah and to Sheva the father of Makbenah and Gibea. Caleb’s daughter was Aksah.</t>
- 50<t>These were the descendants of Caleb. <pb/>The sons of Hur the firstborn of Ephrathah: <pb/>Shobal the father of Kiriath Jearim,</t>
- 51<t>Salma the father of Bethlehem, and Hareph the father of Beth Gader. <pb/></t>
- 52<t>The descendants of Shobal the father of Kiriath Jearim were: <pb/>Haroeh, half the Manahathites,</t>
- 53<t>and the clans of Kiriath Jearim: the Ithrites, Puthites, Shumathites and Mishraites. From these descended the Zorathites and Eshtaolites. <pb/></t>
- 54<t>The descendants of Salma: <pb/>Bethlehem, the Netophathites, Atroth Beth Joab, half the Manahathites, the Zorites,</t>
- 55<t>and the clans of scribes<f>[27]</f> who lived at Jabez: the Tirathites, Shimeathites and Sucathites. These are the Kenites who came from Hammath, the father of the Rekabites.<f>[28]</f></t>
