Psalms 137

  1. 1<pb/><t>By the rivers of Babylon we sat and wept</t> <t>when we remembered Zion.</t>
  2. 2<t>There on the poplars</t> <t>we hung our harps,</t>
  3. 3<t>for there our captors asked us for songs,</t> <t>our tormentors demanded songs of joy;</t> <t>they said, “Sing us one of the songs of Zion!” <pb/></t>
  4. 4<t>How can we sing the songs of the LORD</t> <t>while in a foreign land?</t>
  5. 5<t>If I forget you, Jerusalem,</t> <t>may my right hand forget its skill.</t>
  6. 6<t>May my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth</t> <t>if I do not remember you,</t> <t>if I do not consider Jerusalem</t> <t>my highest joy. <pb/></t>
  7. 7<t>Remember, LORD, what the Edomites did</t> <t>on the day Jerusalem fell.</t> <t>“Tear it down,” they cried,</t> <t>“tear it down to its foundations!”</t>
  8. 8<t>Daughter Babylon, doomed to destruction,</t> <t>happy is the one who repays you</t> <t>according to what you have done to us.</t>
  9. 9<t>Happy is the one who seizes your infants</t> <t>and dashes them against the rocks.</t>
