Proverbs 19

  1. 1<pb/><t>Better the poor whose walk is blameless</t> <t>than a fool whose lips are perverse. <pb/></t>

  3. 3<t>A person’s own folly leads to their ruin,</t> <t>yet their heart rages against the LORD. <pb/></t>
  4. 4<t>Wealth attracts many friends,</t> <t>but even the closest friend of the poor person deserts them. <pb/></t>

  6. 6<t>Many curry favor with a ruler,</t> <t>and everyone is the friend of one who gives gifts. <pb/></t>
  7. 7<t>The poor are shunned by all their relatives—</t> <t>how much more do their friends avoid them! <pb/>Though the poor pursue them with pleading,</t> <t>they are nowhere to be found.<f>[34]</f> <pb/></t>
  8. 8<t>The one who gets wisdom loves life;</t> <t>the one who cherishes understanding will soon prosper. <pb/></t>
  9. 9<t>A false witness will not go unpunished,</t> <t>and whoever pours out lies will perish. <pb/></t>
  10. 10<t>It is not fitting for a fool to live in luxury—</t> <t>how much worse for a slave to rule over princes! <pb/></t>
  11. 11<t>A person’s wisdom yields patience;</t> <t>it is to one’s glory to overlook an offense. <pb/></t>
  12. 12<t>A king’s rage is like the roar of a lion,</t> <t>but his favor is like dew on the grass. <pb/></t>
  13. 13<t>A foolish child is a father’s ruin,</t> <t>and a quarrelsome wife is like</t> <t>the constant dripping of a leaky roof. <pb/></t>
  14. 14<t>Houses and wealth are inherited from parents,</t> <t>but a prudent wife is from the LORD. <pb/></t>
  15. 15<t>Laziness brings on deep sleep,</t> <t>and the shiftless go hungry. <pb/></t>
  16. 16<t>Whoever keeps commandments keeps their life,</t> <t>but whoever shows contempt for their ways will die. <pb/></t>
  17. 17<t>Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the LORD,</t> <t>and he will reward them for what they have done. <pb/></t>
  18. 18<t>Discipline your children, for in that there is hope;</t> <t>do not be a willing party to their death. <pb/></t>
  19. 19<t>A hot-tempered person must pay the penalty;</t> <t>rescue them, and you will have to do it again. <pb/></t>
  20. 20<t>Listen to advice and accept discipline,</t> <t>and at the end you will be counted among the wise. <pb/></t>
  21. 21<t>Many are the plans in a person’s heart,</t> <t>but it is the LORD’s purpose that prevails. <pb/></t>
  22. 22<t>What a person desires is unfailing love<f>[35]</f>;</t> <t>better to be poor than a liar. <pb/></t>
  23. 23<t>The fear of the LORD leads to life;</t> <t>then one rests content, untouched by trouble. <pb/></t>
  24. 24<t>A sluggard buries his hand in the dish;</t> <t>he will not even bring it back to his mouth! <pb/></t>
  25. 25<t>Flog a mocker, and the simple will learn prudence;</t> <t>rebuke the discerning, and they will gain knowledge. <pb/></t>
  26. 26<t>Whoever robs their father and drives out their mother</t> <t>is a child who brings shame and disgrace. <pb/></t>
  27. 27<t>Stop listening to instruction, my son,</t> <t>and you will stray from the words of knowledge. <pb/></t>
  28. 28<t>A corrupt witness mocks at justice,</t> <t>and the mouth of the wicked gulps down evil. <pb/></t>
  29. 29<t>Penalties are prepared for mockers,</t> <t>and beatings for the backs of fools.</t>
