Jeremiah 47
- 1<pb/>This is the word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the Philistines before Pharaoh attacked Gaza:
- 2<pb/>This is what the LORD says: <pb/><t>“See how the waters are rising in the north;</t> <t>they will become an overflowing torrent.</t> <t>They will overflow the land and everything in it,</t> <t>the towns and those who live in them.</t> <t>The people will cry out;</t> <t>all who dwell in the land will wail</t>
- 3<t>at the sound of the hooves of galloping steeds,</t> <t>at the noise of enemy chariots</t> <t>and the rumble of their wheels.</t> <t>Parents will not turn to help their children;</t> <t>their hands will hang limp.</t>
- 4<t>For the day has come</t> <t>to destroy all the Philistines</t> <t>and to remove all survivors</t> <t>who could help Tyre and Sidon.</t> <t>The LORD is about to destroy the Philistines,</t> <t>the remnant from the coasts of Caphtor.<f>[95]</f></t>
- 5<t>Gaza will shave her head in mourning;</t> <t>Ashkelon will be silenced.</t> <t>You remnant on the plain,</t> <t>how long will you cut yourselves? <pb/></t>
- 6<t>“ ‘Alas, sword of the LORD,</t> <t>how long till you rest?</t> <t>Return to your sheath;</t> <t>cease and be still.’</t>
- 7<t>But how can it rest</t> <t>when the LORD has commanded it,</t> <t>when he has ordered it</t> <t>to attack Ashkelon and the coast?”</t>
